Nine employees of a Nairobi nightclub have been detained for five days following a court order as investigations continue into the killing of 24-year-old egg vendor Brian Muendo.
The suspects, all staff at Somer Club along Latema Road in the CBD, are under probe for their alleged involvement in concealing details surrounding the fatal assault.
The Milimani Law Courts heard that the group failed to report the incident to authorities and did not respond to police summons, despite the attack allegedly taking place in full view of other workers and patrons.
According to investigators, Muendo, who had recently begun selling eggs along River Road, was assaulted by a club bouncer during the incident. The bouncer, identified as the main suspect, is still at large and is being actively pursued by police.
Following the assault, Muendo was rushed to Mbagathi Level 5 Hospital before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Prosecutors told the court that the detained staff may have played a role in withholding crucial information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspect.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances leading to Muendo’s death and bring those responsible to justice.
