Njiru Land Owners Seek Kirima Family To Avoid Demolition

Residents of East Riverside Drive in Nairobi’s Njiru district have accepted the court verdict on Kirima land and have asked for negotiations rather than demolition.

They claimed the dealers informed them that the land belonged to foreigners who had fled the country.

The evictions will affect approximately 800 acres, including parts of Mihango Estate and Chokaa in the Njiru area.

After a long court struggle with squatters, Kisumu Environment and Lands Court Judge Samson Odhiambo Okong’o granted ownership of the land to late billionaire Gerishon Kirima’s widows Teresia Wairimu and Anne Kirima.

In a verdict issued on Monday, Justice Okong’o granted the 300 claims to the land that originally housed Njiru Abbatoir until December 31, 2023 to evacuate.

In the September 2014 lawsuit, John Otieno Obade and 299 others claimed that they were the true proprietors of the 80-acre tract, which they acquired by adverse possession.

When someone utilizes land without permission for an extended length of time, it typically leads to legal ownership.

The settlers were trespassers, according to the verdict, because they failed to prove that they had settled on the site after receiving approval.
