No evacuation plan from Corona hit China — Government says

BY ENOCK MUKOMA – Kenya’s High Commissioner to China has ruled out an immediate evacuation plan for Kenyans in Wuhan Hubei province in China.

“The best measure that has been taken by the Chinese government is to ensure that those within the area are not further exposed, so the option of evacuation shouldn’t be an immediate concern..”

Speaking in Eldoret, Sarah Serem informed the public that the government is waiting for the end of the 2-week quarantine.

“… For now, I think the best way is to contain and when the 14 days of quarantine are over, and everybody is safe then it’s easy to move and access,” Sarah Serem said.

“…The Kenyan embassy in Beijing is open 24 hours and we have been in contact with the Kenyan community in China … assuring them that things are under control,” she added.

Kenyans in every province were urged to report any cases through an emergency contact provided by the embassy.

A statement from the ministry of foreign affairs indicated that the province hosts 85 Kenyans and urged others to register if any.

Wuhan, where the coronavirus is said to have originated from, is on a 2-week lockdown to control the spread of the deadly virus.

Some countries have begun evacuating their citizens.

The United States of America, France, and Japan have airlifted their citizens, while India, Australia, and South Korea are preparing to evacuate them.
