Government Gives New Directive To Protect Contractors In North Eastern Kenya 

The Government has assured contractors and engineers working on projects in North Eastern Kenya 

Speaking during an operational tour of the North Eastern region, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said extremists destroying government infrastructure will be dealth with full force of the law. 

CS Kithure Kindiki visited security camps in Wajir and Mandera Counties to motivate frontline security officers and acknowledged their dedication, diligence and patriotism. 

The Government has also upscaled partnerships with the local communities to flush out criminal elements and violent extremists. 

In January, Four individuals were killed in a suspected Al-Shabaab attack in Bura East, Garissa County, including engineers from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

The victims were reportedly on a routine evaluation of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor project.

According to police, the Toyota Hilux Double Cabin model they were travelling in blew up after colliding with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
