NSL: Muranga’ Seal On The Verge Of Promotion After Win Over Coastal Heroes

Murang’a Seal FC are on the verge of earning promotion to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League for the first time in their history, with three league matches to spare.

The Murang’a-based club went into Sunday’s game against Coastal Heroes in Mbaraki in need of a win that would put them on the verge of promotion with games to spare, and they completed the job with a hard-fought win. A Shabana FC win over Migori Youth in Kisii later today will seal Murang’a and Shabana’s places in the top tier.

Yusuf Ali’s first-half stoppage-time goal was all the Murang’a-based club needed to bag maximum points. In the second half, they were more cautious and survived a late onslaught to bag maximum points and remain potentially hours away from getting promoted.

Shabana are currently playing Migori Youth in Kisii, and a win will see the Glamour Boys not only make a comeback to the top tier after 17 years but also ensure that Murang’a too are elevated to Kenya’s top league.

Murang’a came close to promotion last season when they played in the playoffs against Wazito. They lost the tie on aggregate late on, although the season was later nullified, which means it would have been inconsequential even if they had beaten Wazito in the layoff.

The battle will shift to the playoff sport, where Mara Sugar and Migori Youth are battling it out for a chance to face the team that finishes 16th in the FKF PL.
