NTSA Probes Fake License Racket After Expose

Following a recent exposé by the BBC, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched an investigation into the issuance of fake driving licenses.

The ‘Kenya’s Killer Road’ investigation revealed how some driving schools colluded with authority officers to issue licenses to uncertified drivers and how vehicle owners received inspection certificates despite having unsafe vehicles.

The Authority, through Vehicle Inspection Director Gerald Wangai, said in a statement on Tuesday that it was aware of the report and that inquiries into the situation were continuing.

Wangai went on to say that the authority was committed to making inspection methods more efficient and tamper-proof by automating them.

NTSA has also indicated that it will re-validate driving schools to guarantee conformity with the authority’s status standards.

Despite skipping the three-week driving school program, which costs over Ksh.15,000, reporters posing as actual clients are shown acquiring authentic licenses in the stated investigative piece.
