CS Namwamba Hires NYS Officer Who Cleaned His Shoes

A day after a video of a National Youth Service (NYS) officer cleaning Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba’s shoes went viral, the CS responded by offering him a job.

Dickson Loyerer, the officer, was captured on camera wiping the Youth Affairs, Sports, and the Arts CS shoes after a tree planting session at the NYS headquarters where he is stationed.

For the better part of Monday, he was the topic of discussion online, with some Kenyans criticizing the CS for the distasteful gesture.

CS Namwamba is heard in the video requesting that NYS Director General Matilda Sakwa allow him to tip the officer for his kind gesture.

“I hope Madam Director General allows a tip,” Namwamba said amidst laughter from other officials who had accompanied him.

“No! No! We do not allow a tip. It is part of their discipline,” Sakwa told the CS.

However, on Tuesday, the CS announced that he had met with Loyerer at his office and that he had requested that the NYS officer join his staff.

“Dickson Loyerer yesterday graciously volunteered to clean my muddy shoes after a tree planting session at @NYS_Ke HQ where he works. Today we shared a cup of tea in my office, where he gave me NYS tips on grooming, discipline and skills. I have requested Loyerer to join my staff,” tweeted Namwamba.

He included photos of the two, one in which the CS is seen serving Loyerer tea from a flask and another in which the NYS officer is seen adjusting the CS’s bow tie.
