Observe Hygiene During Christmas — Health CS Nakhumicha

Susan Nakhumicha, the Health Cabinet Secretary, has urged Kenyans to exercise excellent personal hygiene throughout the holiday season in light of recent health dangers.

The health CS stated that increased activities and interactions could result in an increase in the rate of transmission of infectious diseases, particularly COVID-19, cholera, and the Ebola virus disease while updating the media on the accomplishments of the ministry of health over the previous 100 days.

“We are cognizant of the fact that there will be increased movement of people, with many travelling as families for reunions and social gatherings locally and internationally,” said the CS.

She said that the government had implemented a wide range of steps to prevent the spread of diseases that are susceptible to epidemics, as well as to lower the number of Cholera cases and probable fatalities.

In addition to coordinating a multi-agency response throughout the entire government, the steps include sending out a cholera alert to all healthcare professionals and emphasizing the value of early diagnosis, confirmation, and management of suspected cases.

The CS urged people to wash their hands frequently, sanitize their hands often, wear face masks when in confined quarters, and be vaccinated against COVID-19 at their local approved health institutions or get a booster shot.

To influence social behaviour, county governments and all other stakeholders have been advised to improve risk communication and community participation in COVID-19 and cholera.

“Everyone has a role to play in creating a safe environment for all of us,” the CS noted.
