Occupy Parliament: Two Men Charged with Unlawful Entry

Two men have been charged with unlawful entry into Parliament after they climbed over the fence along Parliament Road on June 28, 2024.

Stephen Mokogi Nyarenchi and Geoffrey Njau Wangui were taken to the Milimani Law Courts, where they faced charges of unlawful entry into the parliamentary compound.

According to eyewitnesses, Nyarenchi gained access to Parliament, before being arrested.

In court, Nyarenchi pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Ksh2000.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned members of the public against engaging in acts of violence and destruction of property, stating that the law will take its course without fear or favor.

This development comes on the heels of a violent protest that took place at Parliament on June 25, 2024, when protesters breached security and occupied the National Assembly.

The demonstration was sparked by the passage of the controversial Finance Bill 2024 and resulted in several deaths and injuries.

The DCI has yet to release further information on the ongoing investigations into the protest and the two individuals charged with unlawful entry into Parliament.
