ODM, Jubilee formalize Coalition Agreement

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the Jubilee Party’s National Management Committee (NMC) have formally endorsed a pre-election coalition arrangement.

According to a statement, the NMC met with the Parliamentary leadership on Tuesday morning for talks before authorizing the party secretariat to engage the Raila Odinga-led party.

The deal is expected to be based on the two parties’ current solid working relationship in Parliament, as well as the working relationship between its leaders, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

“It is noteworthy that in the last four years, while ODM has carried its mandate as official opposition party in both the Senate and the National Assembly, the party has remained a reliable ally to Jubilee Party in the passage of all critical bills that are important for the good governance of our country,” wrote the ruling party Secretary General Raphael Tuju.

Jubilee has also stated that it will formally write to members of the One Kenya Alliance in order to engage them on the issue.

Out of customary etiquette as a coalition partner, the party will first write to KANU to ask their involvement in the development as stipulated in their agreement.
