ODM to recall 6 MPs who voted YES on Finance Bill 2024

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has announced disciplinary measures against five of its members of parliament who voted in favour of the contentious Finance Bill 2024.

Following a Central Committee meeting in Nairobi on Tuesday, July 2, the party reiterated its continued commitment to championing the issues affecting members of the public, pledging full support for the youth-driven movement against bad governance.

“We stand with the people in their quest to liberate themselves politically, socially and economically. Kenyans asked us to stand with them against the punitive tax proposals in the Finance Bill and we did. Of the 115 Members of the National Assembly who voted against the Bill on the Floor 73, were members of ODM,” a statement by the party read in part.

The lauded the 75 lawmakers for being true representatives of the people.

As a disciplinary measure, the opposition announced, “That the ODM Party shall initiate and lead recall processes in the following constituencies in light of the current office holders repeated violation of their sacred oath and the wishes of the electorate. Gem, Bondo, Navakholo, Kajiado Central, Ikolomani and Suba South”.

The party called upon all political leaders in the country to listen to the voices of Kenyans.

“The young people have spoken in plain language that should be clear to everyone. Let’s not be vague, let us just do what the young people are telling the government to do,” ODM rallied.

The party further reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza Regime must take full responsibility for all the deaths, injuries and destruction of property arising from the violent suppression of peaceful protests witnessed across the country.

ODM called upon President William Ruto to publicly direct security organs to forthwith cease the ongoing abductions and account for and order the release of all detainees held by the state.
