ODPP’s Final Preparations To Tackle Elections Offences

    Among the stakeholders present included members from the DCI, IEBC, NPS, WPA and NCIC.

    The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has launched a Sensitization training for prosecutors and stakeholders for the prosecution of election offences and hate speech cases during the electioneering period.

    Speaking during the opening of the training at KSG Nairobi, Noordin Haji the Directorate of Public Prosecutions reaffirmed the ODPP’s commitment to work with stakeholders in electoral circle to deliver a free and fair election in the August 9 polls.


    Among the stakeholders present included members from the DCI, IEBC, NPS, WPA and NCIC.


    According to the ODPP, offences related to elections can be committed before, during and after the elections.


    Some of the Elections Offences re-emphasized during the training includes; destruction of election materials such as ballot boxes and papers, being in possession of election materials such as ballot papers without Authority, putting anything in a ballot box other than a ballot paper and willfully preventing an entitled voter from voting among others.


    The DPP also said that his office has established toll-free lines and a call centre that will ensure ODPP’s accessibility and timely handling of complaints on elections from Wananchi.
