A police officer attached to Nanyuki police station shot and killed a woman before turning the gun and killing himself on Thursday night.
According to the police report, the officer identified by the name Emmanuel Walugu Onyango shot himself on the chin using an AK-47 rifle with the bullet exiting through the back of his head.
Police stated that when they arrived at the said place, they found that the door was locked inside. They, however, gained entry by breaking it, only to find a man dressed in military combat and a young lady, Immaculate Mwende Mwirigi, with several bullet wounds on her body in a pool of blood.
Before the incident, Onyango had been granted permission for supper at 1800hrs and met her wife who was a few metres from the house, and told her to prepare to prepared him food because he was on duty.
“He was happy playing with her 2 yrs daughter but unfortunately he told his wife that his kid is too young to be left as an orphan and kept on laughing. He also stated that he had a lot of debts from people who make calls for payment every time,” part of the police report read.
He then left the house with a sleeping bag to report to the sentry with his riffle.
The incident which was reported at about 2130hrs by a neighbour, Maximila Wairimu, happened near 62 lounge hotel, Nanyuki town.
Onyango was rushed to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The bodies were moved to the morgue awaiting autopsy.
It is not yet established the motive behind the incident.Â
