Sengani assistant chief Catherine Mwikali, who confirmed the arrest, said the lady was apprehended during a combined operation led by Tala chief Francis Mulinge and his subordinate chiefs.
She stated that they discovered the woman selling bhang near the Tala dam.
Apparently, she had hidden the bhang in her undies and a search by the female chief had to be conducted.
“We had an operation in a bid to find drugs and illicit brew, all along I have been thinking that it’s only men involved but today I was surprised to know even women are involved,” she said.
“Today we have arrested a granny with bang hidden somewhere you can’t shout out loud. we searched her and recovered 52 and a half rolls,” she added.
The assistant chief sounded a warning that the fight against drugs had gained momentum and anyone found would not be spared.
She said that frequent operations will be conducted in a bid to combat drug abuse.
“Whether you’re young or old like this woman we will get to you. We will not condone peddling of drugs in our area, we will ensure the trend ends,” the chief noted.
The suspect is currently held at Tala police post awaiting arraignment in court.
