Omanyala Eliminated from 100m Final at World Championships Tokyo

Kenya’s sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala has bowed out of the men’s 100m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after clocking 10.09 seconds in the second semifinal.

Omanyala, who had raised Kenyan hopes of a historic finals appearance, finished outside the qualifying spots in a tightly contested race. The semifinal was won by South Africa’s Akani Simbine in 10.02, while Ghana’s Saminu followed closely in 10.09.

Earlier, Omanyala had progressed to the semifinals after placing third in his heat, running 10.09 to secure the last automatic qualification slot behind Simbine and Saminu.

However, the semifinal proved a hurdle too high for the African record holder, who could not replicate his trademark explosive finish.
