The fallout between DP Ruto and President Kenyatta spilled over to Murang’a county where a man died during fracass ahead of a church funtion. – By Gerald Gekara.
Trouble started when word went round that the DP was to conduct a fundraiser at a church in Kenol. Property of unknown value is also said to have been destroyed.
Several vehicles turned back to avoid the chaos, while other videos showed two groups of youth pelting each other with stones.
According to Kenol residents, 5 buses ferrying youth to the church event were spotted on Sunday morning. The buses were believed to have come from Nairobi and Thika.
“They were in five buses, and we have never seen them before, they came in and started lighting tires on the road,” a witness told Inooro TV.
A woman identified as Mercy Wangui who was cornered by the residents claimed they had been paid Ksh. 1,000 to disrupt DP Ruto’s meeting.
She said she was among several others who had come from Thika and Kiandutu on orders to to disrupt DP Ruto’s event. However, she didnot disclose who paid them.
The youth allied to a GEMA group, opposed to DP Ruto’s presidency, barricaded the busy Kenol – Sagana Road to prevent Ruto from accessing the venue.
During the fracass, rival youth clashed using crude weapons as police watched. It is not clear who the dead youth was supporting.
Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe has vowed to lead the ejection of the DP from Jubilee, and declared that the GEMA community will not support a Ruto presidency.
On Friday, Secretary General Raphael Tuju accused DP Ruto of orchestrating a coup in Jubilee, in the absence of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
