Open For Business: Kenya-Somalia Border Points To Spur Economic Growth

Written By Vanessa Kariuki ||

The border between Kenya and Somalia, which was shut down in 2011, will gradually reopen over the following ninety days.

This comes after the two nations reached a definitive agreement to increase their interdependence and enable cross-border movement of products, services, labour, and capital.

Following a meeting between high-level delegations from the two nations, CS Kithure Kindiki declared that the Mandera-Bula Hawa border post in Mandera County would open in the following 30 days.

The Liboi-Harhar border post in Garissa County in the following 60 days, while the Kiunga-Ras Kamboni border post would reopen in the following three months.

In addition, discussions are being held with a view to opening a fourth border crossing, which would allow for cross-border travel in Wajir County until CS Kindiki makes a declaration that he expects to be made soon.
