Opinion: Why KDF should take over NCIC operations

The National Cohesion and Intergration Commision (NCEC) has a specific task to ensure Kenyans live harmoniously with each other.

It was borne out of the need to finish threats to nationalism including tribal bigotry.

On paper, the commision has done a commendable job. On the ground, it’s task has been pathetically prosecuted if the current political climate is anything to go by.

The key role of NCIC must be to prevent tribal animosity just as the police role is to detect and prevent crime.

To evaluate their performance, NCIC needs to provide statistics of convictions, and indicate the value it has proffered since formation.

Calling press conferences and media briefings is a good cohesion parameter, but it must not be the key activity.

Long and short of it. NCIC must now bite. Or give way for other organizations with teeth.

Time for pressers is over, action should be the new basis for funding.

Or should the role if NCIC be taken over by the Kenya Defense Forces?

Kenyans have over the years developed confidence and trust in KDF.

They feel secure wherever they spot their military, specifically because the Kenyan soldiers have proven to be efficient.

As 2022 draws near, the task of enhancing nationalism needs to be vested on an institution Kenyans can trust… and culprits FEAR.

KDF combines both with menaces, they may be the dose Kenyans require to live in peace.
