Siaya governor James Orengo sold hope of a Raila Odinga presidency to his supporters, saying that God could still make it happen if it was meant to be.
He was speaking in Rarieda constituency’s Ramba and Mahaya, where he warned residents against joining the Kenya Kwanza government in the name of development.
“I want you to stay hopeful because a people without hope cannot progress.”
“Anyone who abandons his mother’s leaking hut for a neighbor’s gleaming house is a moron,” Orengo said.
He expressed these sentiments in apparent reference to some of the county’s leaders who have since abandoned the opposition and joined the government.
Among the leaders in question are,MDG party leader and Ugenya MP David Ochieng, as well as former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo.
“I can assure you that if it is God’s will for Raila to become President of the Republic of Kenya, that will cannot be revoked.”
“Let us not lose hope,” Orengo urged.
Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, for his part, preached the importance of elected leaders remaining loyal to the political parties that elected them to Parliament.
“The people elected you to the party in which you were because they wanted you to be there.”
“If anything, there were UDA aspirants even in Rarieda for whom the electorate could have voted but did not,” he said.
He urged leaders to respect the electorate and stick to their respective political platforms.
