Tragedy struck the family of Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner John Korir after his 27-year-old son, Engineer Ian Sing’oei, was found dead in a river in the Mwiki area of Nairobi.
The body was discovered on January 4, five days after Ian went missing on New Year’s Eve.
According to Commissioner Korir, Ian was last seen with friends in Mwiki, Kasarani, on December 31.
Efforts to reach him were unsuccessful, prompting an extensive search and police involvement.
His body was eventually retrieved from a river not far from his residence in Mwiki and transported to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) for preservation and postmortem.
Cause of Death
Preliminary postmortem results indicate that Ian’s death was caused by drowning. Speaking about the incident, Korir dismissed rumors linking his son to activism, stating that Ian was a talented engineer who had just begun building his career.
Condolences from the Interior Ministry
The Ministry of Interior and National Administration released a statement expressing its condolences to the grieving family.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. and Mrs. John Korir on the untimely passing of their beloved son, Engineer Ian Sing’oei. We mourn the loss of a young, talented professional whose life was tragically cut short under circumstances that are currently being investigated,” read the statement.
The ministry also urged the public to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time and uphold the dignity of the departed.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
