Traders operating at the Mutindwa Market woke up to a rude shock after 500 stalls were demolished along the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) line – By Gerald Gekara.
According to authorities, the traders had earlier been warned to move 30 meters away from the railway line, owing to several accidents caused by the traders selling their wares on train tracks.
Some traders cried foul over the demolitions, which were carried out in the wee hours of the night. Some say they were not issued with notices, while some who recieved, said they were not allowed to collect their wares.
However, after the closure of Sonko road, that connects the market to Buruburu, speculation is rife over plans to set up a railway sub station.

With the refurbished Spanish Diesel trains expected to arrive anytime from this week, the government has ramped up its efforts to revive old railway links, inorder to improve means of transport.
This will see the promotion of rail transport as an amicable solution to the traffic menace that plagues the country.
