Gor Mahia has dismissed an alleged plan to disrupt its highly anticipated clash against Shabana FC scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at Nyayo National Stadium.

In a statement on Friday, March 20, Gor Mahia Secretary General Nicannor Arum urged fans to turn up in large numbers for the game.

“As Gor Mahia prepares to face Shabana tomorrow at Nyayo Stadium, I call upon each all to come out in large numbers and fill the stands. Let us create an electrifying atmosphere worthy of our great teams,” the statement read.

Addressing reports of potential disruption, Arum urged supporters to ignore any misleading information that could incite tension between the rival fan bases.

“I urge all fans to uphold peace and sportsmanship. Please, disregard any negative messages, visuals or rumours intended to disrupt the harmony between our clubs,” the statement added.

Arum reassured fans that adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure safety throughout the match.

“We want to assure all fans that necessary security measures have been put in place to guarantee safety before, during and after the match. You are free to come and enjoy the game in a secure environment,” the statement further read.

Elsewhere, Gor Mahia has outlined entry and seating arrangements to ensure smooth access and order at the stadium.

Seating arrangements have also been structured to maintain order, with Gor Mahia fans allocated stands A to P and Shabana supporters assigned stands Q to W.

A buffer zone has been designated at Stand No. 8 to separate the two sets of fans.

In the VIP section, Gor Mahia supporters will occupy the right side, while Shabana fans will sit on the left side below the media tribune.

The VVIP section will see Gor Mahia allocated two sections on the right, while Shabana will occupy one section on the left.

Iran hits Kuwaiti oil refinery as Israel renews attacks on Tehran

Drones have struck Kuwait’s largest oil refinery for the second day as Iran launched a sweeping assault on energy infrastructure across the Gulf, while explosions boomed over Tehran from Israeli attacks as the country marked the Persian New Year.

Fires broke out across multiple units at the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery, which processes about 730,000 barrels of oil per day, early on Friday morning, as Kuwaitis marked Eid al-Fitr, the celebration ending the holy month of Ramadan.

Kuwait’s national oil company said several units had been shut down, though there were no casualties.

The country’s military said its air defences were actively intercepting incoming missile and drone threats.

The strikes form part of a broadening Iranian campaign against Gulf Arab states, launched in retaliation for an Israeli strike earlier this week on Iran’s South Pars gasfield, the country’s largest, supplying about 80 percent of its domestic natural gas needs.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said they had also hit United States forces at the UAE’s al-Dhafra airbase, as well as sites inside Israel.

The UAE reported incoming missile and drone threats, while Bahrain said shrapnel from what it called “Iranian aggression” sparked a warehouse fire. Saudi Arabia said its forces had intercepted and destroyed more than a dozen drones within the space of two hours.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned this week that the strikes on Gulf infrastructure represented “a fraction” of the country’s capabilities, and threatened “zero restraint” should Iran’s own energy facilities come under attack again.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, said Israel had acted alone in striking South Pars and would hold off further attacks on energy infrastructure at the request of US President Donald Trump, who had distanced himself from the strike.

Qatar’s Ras Laffan, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, sustained severe damage in Iranian attacks, wiping out roughly 17 percent of global LNG supply and costing an estimated $20bn in annual revenue.

QatarEnergy chief Saad al-Kaabi said repairs could take between three and five years, and that the scale of destruction had set the region back “10 to 20 years”.

Iran has also closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and LNG passes, sending energy prices surging and squeezing supplies of everything from computer chips to fertiliser.

Governments across Asia are already rationing electricity and cutting office hours.

Mujtaba Rahman, managing director at political risk consultancy Eurasia Group, told Al Jazeera the conflict appeared to be entering “an escalatory phase”, warning that Asia and Europe faced the heaviest exposure depending on “how long the war continues”.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Dubai, Zein Basravi,  said Gulf leaders were “trying to maintain some kind of poise as these attacks escalate”, but it was becoming increasingly hard to see how the situation could continue “without some kind of breaking point”.

Israel launched further attacks on Iran overnight. The sound of explosions was heard in Tehran as Iranians marked Nowruz, the Persian New Year. No further details were immediately available.

Meanwhile, sirens sounded on Friday morning in central Israel, including in the capital of Tel Aviv, due to a second Iranian missile barrage within an hour, the Israeli army said.

Air defence systems were trying to intercept the missiles, the army said in a statement.

Israel’s foreign ministry also slammed Iran for what it called an “attack on the holy sites” of Jerusalem following an impact near the walls of the Old City.

It was unclear whether a missile or an interception caused the impact.

According to the AFP news agency, the impacted site was by the Zion Gate, close to the holy sites of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

But the spokesman for Iran’s paramilitary IRGC insisted on Friday that Tehran was still building missiles, seeking to counter a claim by Netanyahu that it no longer could.

Ali Mohammad Naeini also said the Iran war would go on. A short time later, Iranian state television reported Naeini was killed in an air strike.

“These people expect the war to continue until the enemy is completely exhausted,” the general said of the Iranian public. “This war must end when the shadow of war is lifted from the country.”

On Friday, Israel also broadened its attacks to Syria, saying it hit infrastructure there in response to attacks on the minority Druze population in southern Suwayda province. Syria’s state-run SANA news agency did not immediately acknowledge the attack.

Israel, which has a significant Druze population, has previously intervened in defence of the Druze in Syria, launching dozens of air attacks on convoys of government fighters and even striking the Syrian Ministry of Defence headquarters in central Damascus.

More than 1,300 people in Iran have been killed during the war. Israeli strikes against the Hezbollah group in Lebanon have displaced more than 1 million people, according to the Lebanese government, which says more than 1,000 people have been killed. Israel says it has killed more than 500 Hezbollah fighters.

In Israel, 15 people have been killed by Iranian missile fire. Four people were also killed in the occupied West Bank by an Iranian missile strike.

At least 13 US military members have been killed.

KCB Rugby Set for High-Stakes Enterprise Cup Quarterfinal Against Black Pirates

By Peter John

Five-time Enterprise Cup champions KCB Rugby are bracing for a tough quarterfinal showdown against Uganda’s Black Pirates on March 21 at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

The Kenyan side heads into the knockout clash buoyed by a commanding 57-17 victory over Daystar Falcons in the Kenya Cup, a performance that underlined their attacking prowess and solid form.

With momentum on their side, KCB will be aiming to carry that confidence into the regional competition as they pursue another Enterprise Cup title.

However, the bankers are under no illusions about the challenge ahead.

Black Pirates, known for their physicality and strong home support, pose a significant threat, particularly in a knockout setting where margins are often slim.

KCB backs coach Jacob Ojee emphasized the importance of staying focused and disciplined, noting that the team is fully aware of what is at stake.

“We are coming off a strong performance against Daystar Falcons, and that gives us confidence, but knockout rugby is a different challenge. Pirates are a quality side, especially at home, and we are not underestimating them. We have prepared well, and the boys understand what is at stake,” said Ojee.

KCB will nonetheless have to contend with notable absences.

Head coach Andrew Amonde, alongside key players Vincent Onyala, George Ooro, Samuel Asati, Floyd Wabwire, and Festus Shiasi, are away on national duty at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Rio de Janeiro.

Their absence opens the door for other squad members to step up, with players such as Miheso Eric, Andy Cole Omolo, Tyson Maina, Emmanuel Silungi, Brian Wahinya, Elvis Olukusi, and Jenkins Kipruto expected to play pivotal roles.

Elsewhere, attention will shift to Nakuru where KCB Kobs face Nondescripts at the ASK Showground in another Enterprise Cup fixture.

Mining Review Africa Expands Reach with French and Portuguese Translations

By Peter John

VUKA Group’s flagship publication, Mining Review Africa, has introduced French and Portuguese translations on its website, marking a significant step toward improving accessibility for readers across the continent.

The new multilingual feature is aimed at serving a broader audience, including industry professionals, policymakers, and investors who depend on timely and reliable mining news and insights.

By offering content in multiple languages, the platform seeks to bridge communication gaps in regions where English is not the primary language of business and industry engagement.

The move comes in response to growing demand identified during major industry gatherings hosted by VUKA Group.

These include events such as DRC Mining Week, Angola International Mining Conference, and Nigeria Mining Week.

Organisers noted a clear need for more inclusive communication, particularly in countries where French and Portuguese are widely used in professional and commercial settings.

Speaking on the development, Editor-in-Chief Gerard Peter emphasized the importance of inclusivity in information sharing.

He noted that language should not act as a barrier, especially in a sector as critical to Africa’s economic growth as mining.

The translation feature is now live and accessible to all users visiting the Mining Review Africa website.

President Ruto vows not to stay silent while critics attack him

President William Ruto has vowed not to allow opposition leaders to insult him, maintaining that he will continue calling out what he considers inappropriate behaviour, including urging critics to change certain habits.

Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, March 20, 2026, Ruto emphasised that he will face his critics directly, responding to attacks instead of staying silent as he did before.

“I will deal with them. You know they have been insulting me for two straight years. The other day, I only responded for one day, and even then, I wasn’t really answering them, I just told them their behaviour is wrong, to behave properly, and stop exploiting orphans and widows,” Ruto said.

Ruto defended his stance, saying he was simply calling out what he sees as improper behaviour by some opposition leaders. This comes following the remarks by Ruto on opposition figures when he described them as brainless.

He said that he was just correcting certain behaviours, including eating habits and weight.

“I have told them to be disciplined and to eat less so they don’t overindulge. So, where is the mistake in that? I didn’t use any insulting language—they are the ones insulting me. And the problem started with them. I tried to tell them, ‘Let’s compete through policies, through vision,’ but they said they have no agenda, no vision, no plan. They claim their entire plan revolves around William Ruto. So, what was I supposed to do?” Ruto stated.

These remarks come after the insult between Ruto and Gachagua erupted during various public gatherings by the key politicians.

Ruto, while speaking in Cheptais, Mt Elgon, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over recent remarks about his weight loss.

He urged his former deputy to focus on fitness, quipping that Gachagua’s ‘big belly’ could be behind his struggles to stay awake during official meetings.

Kwanza nawaambia baadhi yenu mwende gym; acheni kula chakula kingi. Matumbo yamejaa hadi vichwa vinakaribia kupasuka. Mnalala kwenye mikutano hata mchana,” Ruto said.

On Monday, March 16, 2026, during the funeral of Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wah’s mother, Gachagua trolled President Ruto, claiming that he has lost weight because the opposition is giving him sleepless nights.

He teased that the United Opposition had managed to get into the President’s psyche with the constant criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration. Gachagua said the opposition has managed to get into the president’s psyche through constant criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Ugandan MPs Boost Climate Action Through Strategic Partnership

By Peter John

Uganda’s efforts to tackle climate change have received a boost following a new partnership aimed at strengthening parliamentary engagement and coordination with key stakeholders.

The Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change (UPFCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and Climate Change Hub International.

The collaboration is expected to enhance climate governance, improve legislative capacity, and provide lawmakers with technical support.

UPFCC Chairperson, Hon. Christine Nakimwero, said the agreement comes at a critical transition as the country prepares for a new Parliament.

She emphasized the need to equip incoming legislators with knowledge and tools to effectively address climate challenges at local and global levels.

Lawmakers also called for practical solutions beyond policy discussions. Kiboga East MP, Hon. Keefa Kiwanuka, urged stakeholders to implement community-based projects such as waste management initiatives and carbon footprint reduction programs.

Environmental concerns remain a key issue. Worker’s Representative, Hon. Abdul Byakatonda warned that Uganda’s forest cover has dropped below 10 percent, threatening agriculture and food security.

He proposed measurable targets, including increasing forest cover to 25 percent by 2032.

The private sector signaled its commitment to climate action. PSFU Chief Executive Officer Stephen Asiimwe announced plans to establish a Carbon Credit Secretariat to support climate-smart investments and position Uganda as a low-carbon economy.

Meanwhile, the Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) pledged to strengthen accountability and help Uganda access global climate financing.

The partnership reflects a growing push to turn climate commitments into concrete actions, with a focus on sustainability, economic opportunity, and environmental protection.

Kenya Turns to Aliko Dangote Refinery for Fuel Amid Middle East Supply Crisis

Kenya is increasingly turning to Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote for fuel supplies as fears of a looming shortage intensify following escalating conflict in the Middle East that has disrupted global oil supply chains.

The East African nation, alongside countries such as South Africa, is seeking alternative sources from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, which has quickly become a critical supplier amid shrinking global availability.

Reports indicate that demand for fuel from the refinery has surged sharply, with several African governments racing to secure limited export volumes. However, the refinery’s production capacity estimated at 650,000 barrels per day remains constrained, with nearly 75 per cent reserved for domestic consumption in Nigeria.

Speaking on the growing pressure, Dangote noted that supply, not cost, is the main concern. “The challenge at the moment is not pricing, but availability,” he said, highlighting the widening gap between demand and supply across global markets.

Locally, early signs of strain are already emerging, with some fuel distributors in Kenya reportedly introducing rationing measures, while others have temporarily run out of stock. The situation is particularly severe in rural areas, where several filling stations have shut down due to depleted supplies.

According to Martin Chomba, the impact is already being felt at the grassroots level. “The biggest fuel suppliers to Kenya are rationing product,” he said, adding that some distributors are experiencing stockouts, especially in remote regions.

Kenya consumes approximately 100,000 barrels of fuel daily, all imported through the port of Mombasa. Regulations require importers to maintain only 21 days of operational reserves, leaving the country vulnerable to external shocks.

The crisis is further exacerbated by threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage that handles about 21 per cent of the world’s oil supply, including shipments from Gulf nations that Kenya heavily depends on.

Despite mounting concerns, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has maintained that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the March to April cycle, with Super Petrol retailing at Ksh178.28 in Nairobi.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has sought to calm public anxiety, assuring that the country has adequate reserves and that there is no immediate shortage.

However, with global supply chains under strain and competition for limited fuel intensifying, Kenya’s reliance on Dangote’s refinery underscores the fragile nature of energy security in an increasingly volatile geopolitical environment.

Lightning Strike Kills One in Kilifi as Floods Disrupt Major Narok Highway

By Andrew Kariuki

A lightning strike has claimed one life in Kilifi County as heavy rains continue to cause destruction across parts of the country, with flooding also disrupting transport along a key highway in Narok County.

The fatal incident was reported in Kaloleni sub-county, where authorities confirmed that the victim was struck by lightning during a storm accompanied by strong winds. The body was later retrieved and taken to Mariakani Hospital mortuary.

Kilifi County Commissioner David Wanyonyi said officials have been deployed to sensitize residents on safety precautions amid the ongoing extreme weather conditions. He urged communities to remain vigilant during storms and to avoid exposure to risky environments during lightning activity.

Meanwhile, in Narok County, heavy rains have triggered flooding and significant silt deposition along the Mai Mahiu–Suswa–Narok (B7) Road at Kedong Ranch near Suswa, severely disrupting traffic flow along the busy transport corridor.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has since launched operations to clear the debris and restore access on the affected stretch of road.

Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiata has advised motorists to avoid the area and instead use alternative routes, including Ngong–Suswa, Nairobi–Naivasha–Nakuru–Mau Narok–Narok and Nairobi–Naivasha–Longonot–Suswa.

The incidents come amid growing concerns over the impact of heavy rains currently being experienced in several parts of the country. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while urging the public to take precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.

INTERPOL President Lucas Philippe Urges Ethical Leadership in Policing During Nairobi Visit

By Andrew Kariuki

The President of INTERPOL, Lucas Philippe, has called on law enforcement officers to embrace integrity, discipline and accountability as the foundation of effective policing.

Speaking at the Nairobi Regional Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Academy during a farewell ceremony for outgoing Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO) Benson Kasyoki, Philippe emphasized that leadership in policing goes beyond rank and is defined by character and ethical decision-making.

He told officers that true leadership is demonstrated through personal discipline, integrity and the courage to make the right decisions even under pressure.

The INTERPOL chief further highlighted the significance of each investigation, noting that police work directly affects victims, communities and public confidence in the justice system.

He stressed that professionalism and accountability must remain central to law enforcement, warning that any lapse in conduct can erode trust and weaken the credibility of institutions tasked with upholding the law.

Philippe urged officers to consistently uphold the highest standards, adding that principled leadership is key to maintaining an effective and respected police service.

The remarks were delivered as officers gathered to mark the transition of leadership at the regional level, with the outgoing RCIO recognised for his service.

By Andrew Kariuki

Three people have been confirmed dead following a road accident at the Zion area near as Machinery Market, in Makueni County along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa Highway. Among the dead is a vibrant Kitui Genz student leader Mr. Kelvin Kioko Nyerere.

Nyerere’s last post on WhatsApp status was a call to the youth to register as voters in the ongoing “Niko Kadi” and vote for President William Ruto.

According to preliminary reports, a matatu veered off the road before overturning, resulting in the fatal crash. The circumstances leading to the accident were not immediately established.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, where rescue efforts were initiated to assist the injured and retrieve victims from the wreckage.

Authorities have since begun clearing the scene as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

Motorists using the highway have been advised to exercise caution when approaching the area due to expected traffic disruption.

The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety along the Nairobi–Mombasa corridor, which remains one of the country’s busiest and most accident-prone highways.
