Eldoret: Nema Unearths Plastic Bag Cartel

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) unearthed a syndicate of major suppliers of the banned plastic bags in various parts of the country including Nairobi.

According to the agency, this was done through one of the suspects who was arrested in possession of the bags inside a mini-supermarket.

The suspect then volunteered to take the officers to the supplier in exchange of his freedom.

The supplier goes by the name Akley Bakers.

“Our environmental inspectors backed by the local police and NEMA’s police laid a dragnet for the suspect,” Nema said.

However, the suspect got wind of the plan from sympathetic neighbours where she is believed to have a major store.

Some of her accomplices were arrested as the officers are in pursuit of the supplier who remains at large.

Billionaire INEOS Owner Enters Race To Buy Man United

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s firm Ineos has officially entered the race to buy Manchester United.

United’s owners the Glazer family said in November that they were considering selling the club as they “explore strategic alternatives”.

Ineos said the company had “formally put ourselves into the process”.

Ratcliffe made an unsuccessful late £4.25bn offer to buy Chelsea last year after owner Roman Abramovich put the London club up for sale.

Born the son of a joiner in Failsworth, in Greater Manchester, Ratcliffe is a boyhood fan of United and one of the UK’s richest men.

He said he would have tried to buy the Old Trafford side following the failure to acquire Chelsea but, after meeting with brothers Joel and Avram Glazer, stated that they did not want to sell.

However, since then the Glazers have changed their stance and he has now joined the bidding process.

Ineos group owns Nice in France and Swiss club Lausanne.

United have been owned by the Glazer family since 2005.

They are fourth in the Premier League after an improvement in form under manager Erik ten Hag, who took over in the summer.

They beat local rivals Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday and are nine points off leaders Arsenal.

American investment firm Raine Group, who handled Chelsea’s £4.25bn sale in May, is exclusively advising United. A consortium led by Todd Boehly paid £2.5bn for the Stamford Bridge club’s shares, while saying it would provide £1.75bn to invest in the Premier League club.

Usain Bolt’s Sh1.2 billion Investment Wiped Out By A Fraudster

Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprint legend, is said to have lost his retirement investments worth over Sh1.2 billion after a fraudster wiped his account clean.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Bolt is one of more than 30 people whose assets at Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) are suspected to have been duped by a wealth advisor.

The investment firm allegedly became aware of the fraud in August 2022, but it didn’t realize the Olympian was one of those impacted until it was too late.

According to reports, Bolt requested a meeting with the firm in December after seeing the mismatch in his financial portfolio during the yearly review.

According to the Jamaica Observer, the intelligence of the big theft was sent to Bolt’s management team last week before the firm went public about it.

According to the Jamaica Observer, Bolt opened the account in 2012 and never made a withdrawal.

Pursuant to the newspaper, the retired runner worries he would never be able to recover his retirement funds.

Elliot Fires Gives Liverpool A First Victory In Four Matches

Harvey Elliott’s sublime strike put troubled Liverpool back on track with a 1-0 win at Wolves in Tuesday’s FA Cup third-round replay, according to Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp’s side came in for scathing criticism after losing their last two Premier League games in desultory fashion at Brighton and Brentford.

But Elliott’s brilliant long-range effort in the first half at Molineux secured a much-needed first victory in four games in all competitions.

Ironically, Liverpool’s reward for seeing off Wolves is a return trip to Brighton in the fourth round.

The Reds’ dismal 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Saturday left them languishing in ninth place in the Premier League, 10 points adrift of the top four.

“It feels like ages ago that we had that feeling that we win and play well,” Klopp said.

“We played a really good first half and in the end it was just passion to block the shots. It’s the reaction we wanted to see from ourselves and the boys delivered.

“The goal was exceptional. I don’t want to make Harvey’s performance smaller, but I had a few men of the match today, just the others didn’t score.”

In the bout of soul-searching that followed that embarrassment, Klopp said his struggling team needed to go “back to basics”.

Amid mounting questions about Klopp’s own future at Anfield, the German claimed this week that he will not leave the club unless he is forced to and hinted at changes in his squad during the summer.

Hamstrung by injuries to a host of key players including Virgil van Dijk and Luis Diaz, Klopp made eight changes after the Brighton debacle, with only Cody Gakpo, Thiago Alcantara and Ibrahima Konate retaining their places.

Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker were among those left out, but Liverpool’s understudies rose to the challenge.

Kenyan Men Have Average Of 7 Sexual Partners, Women 2 – Report

According to a new report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the average number of sexual partners among Kenyan men is 7.4.

The report, dubbed the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) 2022, found out that the average number of sexual partners among Kenyan women is 2.3.

In the report detailing trends in sexual behaviour among Kenyans, 35 percent of men reported having sex in the last 12 months with a person who was neither their wife nor living with them compared to 19 percent of women.

“A higher proportion of men (15%) than women (4%) reported having two or more sexual partners in the 12 months prior to the survey. Of those with more than one partner in the last 12 months, 24% of women and 45% of men reported using a condom during their last sexual intercourse,” the report said.

Demographically, wealthier, educated women and those living in cities were more likely to have had more than two sexual partners in the previous year.

In terms of age, the 20-24 demographic had the highest percentage (5.8 percent) of sexual partners, followed by 15-29, 30-39, and women in their forties (2.4 percent).

The same was true for men, with wealthier, more educated men reporting more sexual partners than their poorer counterparts.

In terms of age, men between the ages of 20 and 29 had the highest percentage (21.5 percent) of sexual partners, followed by men in their thirties (17 percent), forties (13 percent), and teenagers aged 15 to 19. (5.3 percent).

Israeli Forces Kill Palestinian Boy In Bethlehem

Israeli forces killed a Palestinian boy Monday near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said, where the army said they opened fire after people threw Molotov cocktails.

Omar Khmour, 14, was shot in the head early Monday in the Dheisheh refugee camp in the southern West Bank and “succumbed to his wounds”, the ministry said.

The Israeli military said Monday that troops opened fire after “suspects hurled rocks, explosive devices and Molotov cocktails at the soldiers.”

He is the second boy killed in Dheisheh during an Israeli military incursion so far this month.

One person was arrested by troops in Dheisheh, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club advocacy group said.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa said the army had entered the camp “at dawn and launched a campaign of raids on citizens’ homes.”

Mourners gathered later Monday for Khmour’s funeral, with his mother leading the procession of his body through Dheisheh.

His body was wrapped in a red and white keffiyeh scarf and a Palestinian flag, before being carried by militants from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

Khmour is the fourteenth Palestinian killed in the West Bank since the start of the year, including civilians and fighters, the majority shot dead by Israeli forces, according to an AFP tally.

Following a series of fatal attacks targeting Israelis last March and April, Israeli forces launched near-nightly raids in the West Bank in which scores have been killed.

The violence in 2022 made it the deadliest year in the West Bank since United Nations records began in 2005.

At least 26 Israelis and 200 Palestinians were killed across Israel and the Palestinian territories last year, according to AFP figures.

One Killed, Five Injured In Al Shabaab Attack In Lamu

At least one person was killed and five others, including Kenya Defence Forces soldiers, were injured in an al-Shabaab attack on the Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road on Tuesday.

According to witnesses and police, the gunmen targeted a vehicle convoy.

The victims were construction workers on Lapsset Road.

The police said that the injured were later evacuated and flown to the hospital.

According to police, the attack occurred around 8 a.m., making it the second such incident in a week.

According to police, the incident occurred about seven kilometres from Bodhai Police Station/GSU camp in Garissa County, as the group was making their way to their work stations from a Chinese camp where they were staying.

A fuel tanker was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) from the front, killing one occupant on the spot.

According to police, the second vehicle, a Foton Tipper, was hit from behind, and the third was a pickup truck that was attacked and burned down.

The responding security team was then injured.

According to witnesses, at least four of them were injured.

Northeastern Regional Police Commander George Seda said that the attackers fled into a bush after the attack.

“We have sent more personnel to help in pursuing the attackers,” he said.

The incident comes just a week after a similar roadside explosive killed four Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) engineers when their vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the Lapsset road in neighbouring Bura East.

The team was on its way from Garissa to Hailey Chinese Camp, then to Bura East.
