Pharmaceuticals Society of Kenya Disowns Staff Who Allegedly Dispensed Skin Medicine For Eye Problem

The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) has disowned the pharmacist who went viral after dispensing skin treatment medication to treat an eye infection.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 27, PSK President Wairimu Mbogo stated that the lady in the video was not a licensed pharmacist.

Mbogo added that she was also not registered with the Society and asked Kenyans to stop referring to anyone dispensing medicine as a pharmacist.

“Following preliminary verification, PSK confirms that the individual featured in the circulating footage is NOT a licensed Pharmacist and is NOT a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya.

“It is important to correct public and media mischaracterisation that refers to every person working in a pharmacy setting as a ‘Pharmacist’.Such misrepresentation is inaccurate and unfairly associates the Pharmacist with incidents without verification,” the statement read in part.

PSK further condemned the issuing of a topical acyclovir formulation for ocular use, stating that any dispensing error involving incorrect formulation or route of administration is a serious clinical concern that warrants regulatory review.

“Medicines intended for ophthalmic use are distinct from dermatological formulations. Proper prescription review and verification of the route of administration are essential components of safe dispensing practice,” he stated

The Society called for strengthened prescription verification systems, clearer accountability structures, and reinforced scope and patient safety safeguards within pharmacy practice.

In addition, the PSK has implored the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) to investigate the matter thoroughly, verify the outlet’s compliance with licensing requirements, and reinforce patient safety standards across all pharmacy premises.

It further reiterated its commitment to advancing professional standards and safeguarding every Kenyan seeking care within a pharmacy.

In the viral video, the distraught mother confronted the lady after realising that she had been administering skin ointment to her child’s eye.

“Since Monday, I have been applying this medicine five times a day as you instructed me. Look at what you have done to my child,” she stated.

The parent claimed that her child had been writhing in pain following the administration of the wrong dose.

Radio Maisha Presenter Quits After 9 Years to Join Politics

Radio Maisha presenter Ally Mwayongwa, alias Shugaboy, has announced his departure from the station after nine years on air.

In a statement on Friday, February 27, the radio personality confirmed that his time at the station had come to an end, describing the journey as fulfilling and life-changing.

“Today marks the end of my tenure at Radio Maisha. Woooow, it has been a 9-year sweet ride here. I came in as a boy, leaving as a mature man. I came in broke, now leaving as a multi-millionaire,” he said.

Shugaboy reflected on the deep bond he built with the station over the years, acknowledging how central the brand had become to his identity.

“I can’t believe this. Yes, Radio Maisha is Shugaboy and Shugaboy is Radio Maisha. Apart from the sweet and sour memories, this radio station has built me,” he added.

Expressing gratitude to his colleagues, and fans, Shugaboy acknowledged the many people who were part of his journey but could not all be mentioned individually.

At the same time, he revealed that he is now turning his attention to new ventures outside mainstream media.

“Thanks to everyone we enjoyed the ride together. There are many I can’t mention. It’s about time to focus on agriculture and politics,” he revealed.

Shugaboy made it clear that a return to radio would only be under specific financial terms.

“Not joining any other media house again unless for a pay above 700k, non-negotiable. Bye my love, Radio Maisha,” he concluded.

CS Ruku reveals plan to move all civil servants from permanent basis to contract terms

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Performance Management, Geoffrey Ruku, has announced plans to transition civil servants from permanent and pensionable employment terms.

Speaking during the official launch of the PSC Strategic Plan 2025-2029 on February 26, Ruku said the move would explore contractual employment for public servants as part of a broader public service transformation policy.

“It’s public service transformation policy, which I will be doing a presentation to the cabinet committee next week, and later I will do a presentation to the full cabinet within the month of March. I think it’s high time as a ministry, as a government, we see whether we can have employees or public servants on contractual basis,” Ruku said.

The proposal, expected to be presented to the Cabinet Committee next week and later to the full Cabinet in March, would see employees engaged on fixed-term contracts of three to five years, renewable based on performance.

Ruku warned that those failing to meet contractual obligations would be required to seek employment elsewhere.

CS Ruku said that public servants should align with the government’s five-year mandate given by the people of Kenya, drawing a parallel between elected officials and civil servants in terms of accountability and performance.

He drew attention to the demographic realities of Kenya, where the average age is 22 years, and called for a more agile and innovative public service capable of delivering services that meet the expectations of a young population.

The focus will be on digital transformation, ensuring that government services are accessible remotely through phones, tablets, and other devices.

Ruku stressed that the initiative aims to create a unified and efficient digital government that responds to the needs of all Kenyans, particularly the youth, while enhancing accountability and performance across the public service.

The CS has been cracking the whip against government employees who report late and against Human Resource managers who have manipulated the government’s payroll systems.

In January, the Cabinet Secretary ordered a lockout of the Kisumu County government after officials reported late to work during an impromptu visit.

Later, he directed human resource managers across government offices to take action against officers who report late, abscond from duty, or fail to serve the public as required.

He also ordered strict enforcement of attendance regulations and conduct standards within the public service.

In October 2025, Ruku warned civil servants involved in fraudulent activities, stating that anyone found guilty would face immediate dismissal and prosecution.

The Cabinet Secretary disclosed that a recent audit of the public service’s human resource systems had uncovered widespread malpractice, collusion, and systemic abuse aimed at diverting public funds.

The audit report revealed that some HR officers had illegally altered the birth dates of public servants in government databases, allowing them to remain in service beyond the mandatory retirement age.

Ruku also revealed that human resources personnel have been facilitating illegal tax exemptions for select individuals, resulting in significant revenue losses for the government.

Police heighten security in Mombasa County during Ramadan

Police in Mombasa have assured the Muslim community of safety during the holy month of Ramadan in a move to enhance the relationship between the law enforcers and the people, especially during the Ramadan period.

Speaking in Mombasa on Friday, February 27, 2026, during a breakfast session with the Muslim community, Deputy Inspector General of the National Police Service, Eliud Lagat, said the police are ready to enhance unity and safety during the holy month.

“We in the police service cannot succeed without you; together, we make Mombasa safe and thriving,” Lagat said.

Lagat urged the need to have the police working with the residents in ensuring that peace and stability prevail, especially during religious occasions when people are gathered in great numbers.

He has observed that trust and candid communication between citizens and security organs is still paramount to dealing with security challenges and ensuring peace. The Deputy Inspector General also recognised the decades-long input of the Muslim community in enhancing social harmony and harmonious living on the Coast.

He restated the service’s resolve in regard to protecting all Kenyans irrespective of their faiths and also in ensuring that worshippers have a safe and quiet atmosphere during Ramadan.

The breakfast was organised as part of the wider community policing by the National Police Service, which seeks to establish trust, increase cooperation and strengthen the collective responsibility of ensuring safety.

According to the DIG, such engagements allow bridging the gaps, understanding, and collective vigilance in securing communities.

The Muslim faithful are celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, which begins with the sighting of the crescent moon, which is the commencement of the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The Muslim figures and scholars in Kenya and the entire globe always gather on the 29th day of the month before the month of Sha’ban to ensure that the moon is sighted. Ramadan is 29 or 30 days, which depend on the lunar cycle and end with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, one of the most important religious holidays that concludes the fasting.

Ramadan is the most holy month amongst Muslims since it is the month during which he (the Prophet Muhammad) was first given the verses of the Holy Quran.

To celebrate the month, Muslims fast during the day and do not consume food, drink, or other bodily necessities.

UK gov’t orders search for record of Epstein trafficking women through RAF bases

Defence Secretary John Healey has told officials to review military records to find any evidence of Jeffrey Epstein trafficking women into Britain through RAF bases.

He has told them to leave “no stone unturned” as they search through more than 20 years of Ministry of Defence (MoD) documents to find evidence of the paedophile billionaire’s private jet landing at bases.

Private jets are allowed to land at military bases by prior arrangement, and for a fee, as long as they do not interfere with any operations.

Mr Healey‘s order comes after Gordon Brown last week claimed the British state may have facilitated Epstein’s crimes by allowing his plane to land at RAF bases, sometimes with unknown women onboard.

The former prime minister noted one particular flight in December 2000, when Epstein’s Gulfstream plane landed at a Norfolk airbase before he visited Sandringham with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

The former prince was arrested last week on suspicion of misconduct in public office after emails released by the US Department of Justice appeared to show he sent confidential information to Epstein from his time as a trade envoy.

He has always denied wrongdoing.

An MoD spokesperson told Sky News: “The defence secretary has ordered a review of all records that the department may hold relating to Epstein flights landing at RAF bases to ensure that any information which relates to Epstein’s crimes is uncovered and provided to the relevant authorities.

“The MoD will support any civilian police investigations.

“Our thoughts are with all the victims of Epstein’s vile crimes.”

Other emails from the latest tranche show Epstein flew into RAF Northolt in northwest London and RAF Marham in Norfolk at least four times between 2000 and 2019.

Further flights, including passenger manifests, could be unearthed in the military records search.

It is understood officials will look through MoD emails to find any record of Epstein or his team booking RAF airfields.

The US administration has released details of Epstein’s plane, which will be used to search for any records.

While RAF flight logs are deleted after three months, it is understood emails between MoD officials and private travellers are kept.

KWS Warns Tourists Visiting Tsavo Park as Heavy Rains Make Roads Impassable

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has sent a public warning to tourists and tour operators on the disturbed tracks of access in the Tsavo East National Park due to continued high rainfall that has made major parts of the park impassable.

Taking it to their social media handle on Friday, February 27, 2026, KWS gave a notice to visitors that the Malindi-Sala Gate route connecting the coastal town of Malindi to the park is not open now because of flooding and poor road conditions.

It has also impacted the Sala Gate-Aruba Area route that links some of the popular areas in the park where wildlife can be seen. The agency was alarmed that the excessive downpours had greatly worsened the road conditions, making driving unsafe and exposing vehicles to the danger of being trapped or stalled.

“Tsavo East National Park Visitors and Tour Operators are advised that the following access routes are currently impassable due to ongoing heavy rainfall: 1. Malindi – Sala Gate 2. Sala Gate – Aruba Area,” the KWS statement read in part.

KWS also stressed that the safety of its visitors was its highest priority, and tourists should follow the temporary restrictions. In order to secure further access, KWS recommended that visitors be able to enter via different gates, such as the Bachuma gate and the Voi gate, which is accessible via the town of Voi.

According to KWS, these are the routes that are safe and always open, which allow the entry of the park and operations of tourism to proceed regardless of the disruptions.

This is one of the warnings given amidst increased rainfall in some regions of Kenya that has impacted transport facilities and movements in the national parks and other conservation areas.

KWS further said that wildlife drives, conservation patrols and tourism activities in Tsavo East National Park, which is one of the largest and most iconic wildlife sanctuaries in the country, depend on the accessibility of road networks.

Tour operators have been encouraged to design their itineraries well and keep updated by making use of official KWS communication channels. Visitors have been advised to consult authorities before travelling to parks so as not to be inconvenienced and to be safe.

KWS assured citizens that it is keeping a close eye on the situation and it is doing everything it can to allow normal access to the situation once weather conditions are normalised.

The unit further noted that more updates will be given once the road conditions stabilise. Nevertheless, KWS also reiterated its dedication to protecting both the wildlife and the visitors, and it will also promote more conservation efforts in the rainy season.

Martha Karua Says She Won’t Deputise Anyone in Opposition if Denied Ticket to Vie for Presidency

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has declared she will not be a running mate in the upcoming 2027 general elections, vowing to go all in as a presidential candidate.

Speaking on Friday, February 27, 2026, during an interview with a local media house, Karua explained her next steps in the case if she loses in the elections.

On her part, Karua explained that if she is not nominated as a presidential candidate by a coalition, she will run independently.

“I’m not willing to be someone’s running mate. But in the event that I’m not nominated, I am a presidential aspirant myself. Ruto is a sitting president; I am a standing president,” Karua said.

In addition, Karua affirmed her support for whoever is selected if she misses the top position in the 2027 general elections but maintains she will not deputise anyone.

“If I am not selected, I am willing to one hundred per cent support whoever is selected in accordance with the systems we are going to put in place. This means if I miss that position, I will not deputise anyone,” Karua added.

In 2025, Karua officially declared her intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 General Election. She has, however, promised that she will serve only a single term if elected.

Speaking during the party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) Friday, Karua said her decision was not driven by personal ambition but by a deep devotion to public service and the need to restore trust in Kenya’s democratic institutions.

“Today, before you, I declare my candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the next General Election under the banner of the People’s Liberation Party and within a united opposition,” she announced.

She added, “We make this declaration not out of mere ambition for office, but out of devotion to service.”

Karua went on to state that her leadership agenda could be achieved within five years, arguing that no leader can fully solve Kenya’s challenges in a single tenure, but a firm foundation can be laid.

“I believe that in five years it is possible to lay a foundation. Nobody will ever finish the job of making Kenya prosperous. You lay a foundation, and you wait for the next team to further it. So, I want to open by saying, “I’ll be seeking one term,” she said.

Epstein tried to buy a palace in Morocco days before his arrest in 2019

Jeffrey Epstein tried to buy a multimillion-dollar palace in Morocco the day before his arrest in 2019, according to documents released by the US Department of Justice last month.

Epstein had pursued acquiring Bin Ennakhil since 2011, but disputes with the seller over the price and purchase arrangement dragged on for years.

The grand palace in the luxury Palmeraie neighbourhood of Marrakech has been described as an architectural masterpiece, built by 1,300 craftsmen and featuring ornate carvings and mosaics.

Epstein signed a $14.95m (£11m) wire transfer on 5 July 2019, the day before his arrest, following an agreement to buy the offshore company that owned the property for €18m (£13.3m).

According to the released documents, the transfer was Epstein’s last major financial transaction in the period before his arrest by US authorities on sex trafficking charges upon his return to New York.

Three days after the arrest, Epstein’s accountant Richard Kahn cancelled the wire transfer and the purchase was ultimately never completed.

Morocco has no extradition treaty with the US and local media has speculated that one of Epstein’s motivations to purchase the property may have been to retreat to the country to avoid arrest, if new charges were brought against him.

However, a former associate of Epstein, who preferred not to be named, said the transaction showed Epstein “had no clue” about his imminent arrest.

They added that “it would make sense if he was thinking of a potential sanctuary where he could still live like a king”.

The released files, however, contain no reference to Epstein discussing the country as a possible refuge from US authorities.

Epstein’s connections to Morocco go back to at least the early 2000s, with Virginia Giuffre, one of his most prominent accusers, recounting in her memoir of being flown to Tangier by Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell to inspect the interior design of a number of luxury properties.

At the time, Epstein wanted to redesign parts of his island home in a Moroccan style.

In 2002, Epstein attended the wedding of Moroccan King Mohammed with Maxwell, having been invited by former US President Bill Clinton.

Epstein’s connections

Epstein was convicted in the United States of soliciting underage sex in 2008, and following his release from house arrest in 2010 his interest in Morocco seems to have grown.

The released files appear to show that in the same year, Epstein asked former Labour cabinet minister Peter Mandelson to find him an assistant who could “fin[d] a house in Marrakesh” for him.

In 2010 Epstein appeared to ask Peter Mandelson – pictured here following his arrest earlier this week – to find him an assistant who could “fin[d] a house in Marrakesh” for him

The documents detail how Epstein made periodic visits to Morocco from 2012, staying in the exclusive Palmeraie district, home to a wealthy community of expatriates including Jabor al Thani of the Qatari royal family, a close associate whom he described as his “Arab brother”.

Being mentioned or pictured in the Epstein files is not, in itself, an indication of wrongdoing.

Bin Ennakhil and ‘Mr Kiss’

Epstein’s long-term girlfriend Karyna Shuliak began leading the search for a property in Marrakech, with numerous visits and negotiations documented in emails under her name.

Marc Leon, a partner of Kensington Luxury Properties, told the BBC that Epstein’s focus settled on their property Bin Ennakhil – Arabic for “between the palm trees” – as early as 2011.

Easy Coach Founder Azym Dossa dies

Easy Coach’s founding director and former Managing Director, Azym Dossa, is dead.

Dossa, leadership has been hailed as one that helped shape the company into one of Kenya’s leading passenger transport service providers.

In a statement on Thursday, Easy Coach described Mr Dossa’s passing as a great loss to the company and the wider business community, remembering him as a visionary leader whose dedication and strategic direction shaped the company during its formative years.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the sad demise of Mr Azym Dossa, founding director and former Managing Director of Easy Coach,” the company said.

Mr Dossa was credited with playing a key role in building the company’s operational and service standards, helping establish its reputation for reliability and customer-focused transport solutions.

“Mr Dossa’s vision, leadership, and dedication shaped Easy Coach from its earliest days and left a lasting legacy that will always be part of who we are as a company,” the statement added.

The company extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, wishing them strength and comfort during the difficult period of mourning.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May Allah grant him eternal peace and give strength and patience to all who mourn his loss. Ameen,” the statement read.

Industry players and business leaders also paid tribute to Mr Dossa, recognising his contribution to Kenya’s public transport sector and his role in promoting modernised intercity travel services.

His passing has been widely described as the end of an era, with many remembering him as a pioneer who helped transform passenger transport services in the country.

Dossa, death comes after retiring from active management, ending a 20-year run at the helm of the bus company.

He had cited health challenges and age as the reasons behind his exit from the corner office at the company’s main offices located at Railways go-down, along Haile Selassie Avenue, Nairobi.

“This has not been an easy decision. However, given my recent health challenges associated with advanced age, I am of the opinion that this is the right time for me to step down. The directors and shareholders of the company have kindly acceded to my request,” Dossa says in a past memo to staff, seen by the Star.

“While I am stepping down from the executive, I will remain closely connected to East Coach and will continue to offer my guidance and support to the company,” he added.

Dossa’s history in the country’s bus transport industry dates back to the days of the collapsed Akamba Bus where he once served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer.

He started the company with an initial fleet of seven buses operating a single route between Nairobi and Kisumu, both day and night services, with a standby bus to ensure a seamless rotation for regular maintenance and potential rescues when needed.

Today, the company’s fleet has more than doubled from that number, with Easy Coach currently considered one of the biggest bus companies in Kenya with over 35 destinations.

One of Dossa’s challenging period was during the Covid-19 pandemic, which took a toll on the company’s operations and the entire transport industry at large.

“Our profits diminished drastically, and our reserves were significantly depleted during this challenging period. However, it was important for us to make strategic decisions that ensured our business’s survival while also taking care of our employees,” he noted during a past interview.
