Man Charged in Over Ksh32M Gold Export Fraud Scheme Denies Charges

By Andrew Kariuki

A Nairobi court has charged a man over an alleged multi-million shilling fraud scheme involving fake export dealings, in a case that prosecutors say involved elaborate deception and international transactions.

The accused, Mohamed Noor, appeared before the Milimani Law Courts where he faced multiple counts, including conspiracy to defraud and handling proceeds of crime.

According to the charge sheet, Noor alleged conspired with others before the court to fraudulently obtain USD 250,500 under the guise of facilitating the export of goods from Kenya to Dubai.

The prosecution claims that the accused falsely represented that he was in a position to process, package and ship the goods, a claim investigators say was untrue.

In a separate count, Noor is accused of dealing with proceeds of crime.

The prosecution alleges that on February 4, 2026, he transferred USD 217,900 from a National Bank account registered under a company name, despite having reason to believe that the funds were derived from unlawful activity.

The accused denied all charges when they were read to him in court.

The prosecution did not oppose bail and the court released Noor on a bond of Ksh 1 million with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 250,000.

The matter is scheduled for mention on March 3, 2026, for further directions.

Ruth Odinga: Sifuna’s removal as ODM Secretary General was irregular

Ruth Odinga with Boyd Were and Oketch Salah

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has publicly challenged the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, describing the process as “irregular” and “unprocedural”.

Following the National Executive Committee (NEC) decision on February 11, 2026, to oust Sifuna over alleged “indiscipline,” Ruth Odinga argued that the party failed to follow its own internal disciplinary and arbitration mechanisms.

She asserted that Sifuna was denied the right to reply to allegations of indiscipline and insubordination before the decision was made.Ruth warned that silencing voices like Sifuna’s, who has questioned the party’s transparency and its alignment with the current administration, could damage the party’s credibility ahead of the 2027 General Election.

She has called for internal mediation to resolve the deepening divisions within the party, noting that the late Raila Odinga always championed dialogue to manage internal crises.

She criticized the recent installation of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga as the new party leader, echoing Sifuna’s claims that such changes were made unconstitutionally.

As of February 12, 2026, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has temporarily halted Sifuna’s removal and barred the party from gazetting the resolution, effectively reinstating him pending a full hearing.

Air Force One set for makeover paint job with new colours

BBC -The US presidential jet is getting a new paint design that will include one of President Donald Trump’s preferred colour choices for the White House and his hotels, gold.

Air Force One and other planes used by high level US officials, including First Lady Melania Trump, are being repainted gold, deep red and navy blue as they undergo scheduled repairs and maintenance, according to the US Air Force.

The colours will also feature on a new luxury 747-8i Boeing plane donated to the presidential fleet by Qatar, an Air Force spokesperson told CBS.

The white, blue and robin’s egg blue associated with the presidential jet have been in use since the 1960s, when John F Kennedy was president.

Trump has called for updates to the executive fleet since his first term. His successor, former President Joe Biden, cancelled a broad makeover Trump had initially planned.

The new colours have already been spotted on model aircraft seen at the White House, where Trump is also making his aesthetic imprint, from the large-scale plans for a new ballroom to the more subtle installation of signs in a curling font in gold.

The private plane Trump travelled on during his 2024 campaign, sometimes called “Trump Force One”, used the same colour palette that will be given to the presidential fleet.

While it is not clear how much the paint jobs will cost, the US Air Force, which operates the executive planes, said in a statement to the BBC that the new colour requirements were “not expected to result in additional delays or costs to the program.”

It added that it was implementing the new colour scheme on the Boeing VC-25B (a variation of the Boeing 747) currently used to transport the president, as well as four C-32 jets often used as “Air Force Two” for the vice-president, and the jet donated by Qatar. Painting has been completed on of the C-32 aircraft.

Preparations began last summer for the Pentagon to refit the Qatari jumbo jet that is expected to serve as Air Force One. The Boeing aircraft – valued at $400m (£300m) – was donated by Qatar as an “unconditional” gift, with any necessary retrofitting costs being borne by the US government.

While any plane where the president is a passenger is called “Air Force One”, the holder of the highest office in the country most often flies on a specialised jet that includes an office, a bedroom suite, two kitchen galleys that can prepare 100 meals, office space and a medical facility, according to Boeing.

Wolves secure 2-2 draw with late equalizer against Arsenal.

“Extremely disappointed obviously with the result and with the way the game ended but we have to blame ourselves,” Arteta said. “The performance in the second half we didn’t show anything close to the standards required in this league to win. It’s a moment of disappointment, we want to talk a lot about how we’re feeling but it’s not the moment to do that.

“When you are at this level and at the top you need to take the hit, today we deserved. On Sunday we have a big game coming up.

“It was one moment after another moment after another moment. Even though we scored the second goal we never had dominance of the game that’s the reality.”

Arsenal have held leads in each of the last three title races but have gone on to finish second in each season, and Wednesday’s draw may have brought up bad memories that they may once again come second after relinquishing a lead.

Wolves boss Rob Edwards saw his side pick up a second successive draw and was proud of the belief his side showed to gain an unlikely point.

“It’s nice to get a late equaliser and especially when you’re 2-0 down against a team like that,” Edwards said. “We’re up against Arsenal, everyone needs to have a bit of perspective. In the first 20-30 minutes it was everything we expected the game to be like.

“We stayed in the game and that was important. We showed belief and played with a bit more emotion. To show that character and quality and all of that. It might be easier for the lads to lose belief but that’s not the case.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said his team have only themselves to blame after surrendering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with rock-bottom Wolves at Molineux, adding that all criticism of his side was fair after the capitulation.

The Gunners are now only five points ahead of Manchester City having played a game more and have now won just two of their last seven league matches.

Arteta said his team have to accept every criticism that comes their way and need to bounce back against Tottenham on Sunday.

“That’s credit obviously to Wolves, they can’t be underestimated,” Arteta said of the Premier League’s last-place team. “It’s very basic things and simple things that today we did really wrong and that’s why we had the feeling without conceding much, when the game is open that kind of thing can happen.

“Any question, criticism, opinion, you have to take it on the chin today. That’s it. Any bullet, take it because we didn’t perform at the level required, Anything anybody says can be right because we didn’t do what we had to do. The way to do it is on the pitch on Sunday in another great opportunity we have.

“We have always done it but if you are strong you need to show it next time. To say it here is simple, but we have to show it on the pitch.”

Bukayo Saka netted his fifth goal of the season to give Arsenal an early lead and they doubled their advantage 11 minutes into the second half through Piero Hincapie’s first goal for the club which put the Gunners in a commanding position.

Hugo Bueno’s sensational strike halved the deficit just after the hour mark, and they left it late to strike doubt into Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes when Tom Edozie climbed off the bench to score the equaliser on his debut.

Arteta added that his team were nowhere near their best and have to look at themselves for dropping points once again.

Ukraine officials to boycott Winter Paralympics

BBC -On Tuesday, it was announced six Russian and four Belarusian athletes will compete in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding at the Milan-Cortina Games, which start on 6 March.

In September, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) lifted its ban on athletes from the two countries competing at the Games.

However, the IPC does not govern the six sports contested at the Paralympics and despite the individual bodies – including the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) – refusing to lift their own bans, Russia and Belarus won an appeal to the Court of Arbitration of Sport (Cas) against FIS.

As a result, athletes have been able to return to FIS competitions and the 10 athletes have been awarded bipartite commission invitations to compete at the Paralympics.

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky said the decision was “awful”.

“It’s a dirty decision, absolutely, not respectable and not European from the point of values,” he said on Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“I think this is not a just decision, so we will react.”

European Commissioner for Sport Glenn Micallef said he would also not attend the opening ceremony and called on others to “take the same stand”.

Both countries were suspended from Paralympic competition after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with Belarus a close ally of Russia.

A partial ban – allowing athletes to compete as neutrals – was introduced in 2023.

Earlier on Wednesday, Johan Eliasch, the president of the FIS, told BBC Sport the decision to award bipartite places had “not been easy”.

“What we’re dealing with here is an issue that is divisive, where people have different feelings depending on where they come from. It’s something that we have to respect,” he said.

“Athletes can’t choose where they were born. On the other hand, they can’t be used for PR purposes in their home countries to promote the war.

“It’s our duty to make sure that athletes are not weaponised for political purposes.”

Bipartite commission invites are granted to individual athletes, rather than their international federation, and allow the participation of top athletes “who may not have had the opportunity to qualify through other methods due to extraordinary circumstances”, among other factors.

The IPC, with the support of international federations – in this case FIS – decides who receives the bipartite slots after receiving recommendations from the federation.

Ukraine has also been awarded bipartite slots in three sports.

Petition filed to block Ruto-Sakaja cooperation agreement

A constitutional petition challenging the validity of the Cooperation Agreement between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government has been filed at the High Court.

Justice Bahati Mwamuye on Wednesday certified as urgent the petition by Christine Gathoni and Benard Peter.

The court observed that the Petitioners /Applicants’ Notice of Motion questions the legality and constitutionality of the agreement and seeks its invalidation.

The applicants are also seeking certification of the matter for empanelment of a bench under Article 165 (4) of the Constitution, arguing that it raises substantial questions of law.

In addition, they have applied for conservatory orders pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The court certified the application as urgent and ordered that it be heard on a priority basis.

The Petitioners were directed to immediately serve the Respondents and Interested Parties with the Application, the Petition, and the court’s directions, and to file an Affidavit of Service by close of business on February 20, 2026.

The application will be heard by way of written submissions on March 16, 2026.

The case now sets the stage for a determination on whether the Cooperation Agreement between the National Government and Nairobi City County Government is constitutionally valid.

On February 17, 2026, a cooperation framework between Nairobi City County Government and the National Government was signed at State House, Nairobi.

President William Ruto witnessed the appending of signatures by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Pope Leo XIV Appoints Cameroon priest who was abducted in 2025, as auxiliary bishop

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Father John Berinyuy Tatah, who was among six Catholic priests abducted in Cameroon’s Bamenda Archdiocese on Nov. 15, 2025, and later released, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese.

The appointment of Berinyuy, rector of the Catholic University of Cameroon in Bamenda, to assist Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya in shepherding the archdiocese was made public on Feb. 13 by the Holy See Press Office.

Born on Dec. 18, 1975, in Mbuluf-Shisong in the Diocese of Kumbo, the bishop-elect studied philosophy and theology at St. Thomas Aquinas Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Bambui, Bamenda. He was ordained a priest for the Kumbo Diocese on March 30, 2005.

The priest pursued further studies in spirituality at the Dominican monastery of Bambui and was awarded a doctorate in theology, specializing in Christian anthropology, at the Pontifical Theological Faculty Teresianum in Rome.

Following his priestly ordination, Berinyuy served as parish vicar of St. Joseph in Bafut (2005–2006) and parish priest of St. Patrick in Babanki-Tungo (2006–2010).

Before being appointed to his current position, he served as spiritual director and lecturer at St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Bambui and chaplain of the diocesan charismatic movement.

The bishop-elect was the last of the six priests to regain freedom on Dec. 2, 2025, after being held captive for over two weeks.

In a video circulated on Facebook shortly after his release, the Cameroonian priest recounted how he and his brother priests were abducted and appealed for peace in Cameroon’s troubled Anglophone regions.

“I was arrested with my brothers because the forces of La Republic accompanied us to Ndop for the opening of the university. During the Mass, the nuncio came to inaugurate the university in the war zone, and we say that we are very sorry that that happened, and that it will not happen again,” Berinyuy said.

He added: “We are praying that there should be dialogue to see to the solution of the southern Cameroonian, and that there should be justice and peace, so that a lasting solution should be brought to these problems that we are facing.”

Following the incident, Pope Leo XIV expressed sorrow over the kidnappings of priests, Christians, and students in Nigeria and Cameroon, urging authorities to act swiftly to secure their freedom.

Once consecrated bishop, Berinyuy will assist 60-year-old Nkea in shepherding 615,015 Catholics out of the total population of 1,460,253, representing 42.1% of the population, according to 2022 statistics.

Newcastle thrash Qarabag 6-1 as Anthony Gordon scores four in first half of Champions League knockout play-off first leg.

Anthony Gordon scored four first-half goals as Newcastle all but booked a Champions League last-16 tie against Chelsea or Barcelona by thrashing Qarabag 6-1 in the first leg of their knockout play-off.

Gordon took his tally to 10 in Europe this season by scoring in the third minute, netting two penalties and rounding goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski, who was also beaten by Malick Thiaw’s header in an extraordinary opening period and Jacob Murphy’s deflected effort in the second half.

Despite the five-goal lead at half-time, Newcastle captain Kieran Trippier and Gordon had to be separated by their team-mates as they headed for the dressing rooms, with their dispute seemingly over the forward taking the second penalty. However, they appeared to make up with a hug when Gordon was substituted in the second half.

Newcastle had 16 shots in the first half and 11 of those were on target as Kochalski prevented further embarrassment by making six saves to deny the rampant visitors, who had striker Nick Woltemade pulling the strings in midfield.

Newcastle made light work of the 2,529-mile journey to Azerbaijan, the longest-ever distance travelled by an English club for a Champions League away match, as they went two up inside eight minutes. Gordon finished well after Dan Burn had surged forward and played him in before Thiaw rose to head in Trippier’s cross.

Eddie Howe’s side should have been further ahead by the time Gordon smashed a penalty into the left corner after Matheus Silva was penalised for handball. But straight from the restart, he pounced on more schoolboy defending to round Kochalski for his hat-trick and Newcastle’s fourth in the 33rd minute.

There was still time for more as Gordon was then brought down by the goalkeeper and, after a brief discussion with Trippier, the forward sent the spot kick in the opposite corner to his first penalty, moving him second behind Kylian Mbappe in the competition’s scoring charts this season.

Newcastle eased off after the break and Qarabag left-back Elvin Cafarquliyev punished them, firing a shot from an angle through Nick Pope with the goal awarded by VAR after initially being ruled out for offside.

Cafarquliyev was then involved in the seventh goal of the night and Newcastle’s sixth, diverting substitute Murphy’s shot from outside the box past his goalkeeper.

Newcastle visit title-chasing Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday evening followed by the second leg against Qarabag on Tuesday February 24.

Spanish police arrest 20-yr-old hacker who booked luxury hotels for one cent

Spanish police said Wednesday they had arrested a 20-year-old man who allegedly hacked a hotel booking website to reserve luxury rooms for as little as one cent, in the first known cybercrime of its kind.

The suspect is believed to have manipulated the site’s payment system, altering the validation process of an electronic payment platform so that bookings appeared fully paid.

But only a minimal amount — one cent — was actually charged for rooms costing up to 1,000 euros ($1,200) a night.

“This cyberattack was specifically designed to alter the payment validation system, and this is the first time we have detected a crime using this method,” Spain’s National Police said.

Police said the man, a Spanish national, also consumed minibar items during his stays and occasionally left bills unpaid.

At the time of his arrest, he was staying at a luxury Madrid hotel with a four-night reservation totalling 4,000 euros.

The man had stayed at the hotel multiple times, causing losses of more than 20,000 euros, a police spokeswoman said.

The investigation began after an online booking website reported suspicious activity earlier this month.

Transactions initially appeared to be completed correctly, but the irregularity was only discovered days later, when the payment platform transferred the actual amount paid to the affected company.

Call of Duty advert banned for trivialising sexual violence

BBC -The commercial for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 featured fake officers at an airport security check – as the real ones were too busy playing the game.

Viewers complained the video, which included a man being told to strip down while an officer put on gloves and said “time for the puppet show”, was “irresponsible and offensive”.

Gaming company Activision Blizzard UK Ltd said the ad promoted the 18-rated video game and was therefore targeted at adult audiences only, who had a higher tolerance for irreverent or exaggerated humour.

The spot ran on YouTube and video on demand services, including ITV and Channel 5, in November 2025.

It was one of several used to promote the latest game in the Call of Duty series.

The campaign featured the idea that replacements had to step into different job roles, because the original staff were playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 instead.

The ad in question featured an airport security setting, with one actor explaining they were the “replacers”.

A man was then told he had been randomly selected “to be manhandled” before being told to remove his clothes down to “everything but the shoes”, while the female officer put on a pair of gloves.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received complaints from nine viewers who believed the ad trivialised sexual violence.

Activision Blizzard UK Ltd said the ad had been reviewed by Clearcast, which provides pre-clearance of TV advertising, and had been approved with an “ex-kids” timing restriction.

It added it was not broadcast during or around children’s programming or content likely to appeal to under-16s.

The company claimed it depicted a deliberately implausible, parodic scenario that bore no resemblance to real airport security procedures.

According to the firm, the ad in question did not sexualise the act of performing searches – and that the humour referred to discomfort rather than sex.

It added that even if some viewers inferred innuendo, it did not contain explicit content or objectifying imagery.

‘Irresponsible and offensive’

The ASA said the story included a non-consensual, invasive search of a man passing through airport security.

However, it acknowledged the video did not include explicit imagery and the man remained clothed for its duration.

But the watchdog noted the humour was “generated by the humiliation and implied threat of painful, non-consensual penetration of the man”.

The ASA concluded that the advert trivialised sexual violence and was therefore irresponsible and offensive.

It therefore ruled the ad must not appear again in its current form.

Two further complainants also questioned whether the ad encouraged or condoned drug use, due to a scene where the replacement officers picked up a prescription medication container and winked.

This complaint was not upheld by the ASA.

It is not the first time an advert for the video game series has been banned.

In 2012 an advert for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 which showed armed men firing at a lorry was given a daytime ban by the ASA for scenes of violence and destruction which were “inappropriate” for young children.
