Emulate KDF’s efficiency in service delivery, President Kenyatta challenges Kenyans

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans working in different sectors of the economy to emulate the efficiency exhibited by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), saying that would ensure effective and timely delivery of services.

The President, at the same time, commended KDF for its professionalism that has seen it serve the country with great distinction.

“If all of us in Kenya operated and behaved; and loved and served their country in the manner in which our Kenya Defence Forces does, Kenya would today be a great country. And we all have a big lesson to learn,” President Kenyatta said.

The Head of State spoke today at the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) garage in industrial area when he flagged off 83 vehicles that were rehabilitated by the state agency.

NMS restored the vehicles, which had been lying at the facility as scrap metal for years, at a cost of Kshs 22 million in a span of two months following the handover of the running of the garage to NMS by the Nairobi City County.

The automobiles included 21 tipper trucks, 24 fire engines, six ambulances, three hydraulic street lighting platforms, two scrub street sweepers and two graders among other equipment that had been grounded for eight years.

President Kenyatta expressed optimism that the remaining 80 grounded vehicles at the garage will be repaired in the next two months and be ready to serve Nairobi residents.

At the same time, the President dismissed claims that deploying KDF in service delivery was militarising the country.

“I have no such intention (militarising the nation). But it is only a fool who would not use those who can perform to help him achieve his intended goals.

“I am not militarising anything. I am using reliable Kenyan citizens to fulfil my agenda for this Republic. And the KDF are part of us and are also part of our citizens,” the President said.

The Head of State cited several infrastructure projects including rehabilitation of railway lines, the port of Kisumu and restoration of ships as some of KDF’s recent achievements.

Chief of Defence Forces Gen Robert Kibochi and NMS Director General Major General Mohammed Badi also spoke at the event and assured the President of KDF’s commitment to continue serving the nation.

Ole’s transfers raise questions about Manchester United strategy

Manchester United went into this transfer window desperately wanting to sign a right winger, specifically Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, but despite pursuing the England international for months, the 20-year-old remained in Germany.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would surely have also wanted a center back to plug a hole in a leaky defense but on the final day of the this year’s window, no player arrived who could play alongside either Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof or Eric Bailly, none of whom have been particularly convincing three matches into a new Premier League season.

But the worry among United fans is that Cavani could equally be another Radamel Falcao, a striker who had a history of injury problems and arrived on loan on deadline day in 2014.

But the flurry of deals on Monday have led many to ask why the signings weren’t completed weeks, or even months earlier, if they were indeed the players United wanted the most.

Can United’s new signings help the club not only close the 30-point gap which was between Solskjaer’s men and last season’s EPL champion Liverpool, but also steer clear off the teams that were in their rearguard last term?

White House concludes contact tracing for positive COVID-19 cases

The White House told staff in an email on Tuesday that it had completed “all contact tracing” for positive Covid-19 cases identified at the White House, and urged anyone who hasn’t been contacted and suspects they have had contact with someone infected by the virus to reach out to the White House Medical Office.

(CNN)The White House told staff in an email on Tuesday that it had completed “all contact tracing” for positive Covid-19 cases identified at the White House, and urged anyone who hasn’t been contacted and suspects they have had contact with someone infected by the virus to reach out to the White House Medical Office.

The email, reviewed by CNN, was sent to staff working across the White House complex, following revelations of new infections that include President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, as well as many top White House advisers.

However, New York Times White House correspondent and CNN contributor Michael Shear, who tested positive for the virus following direct interaction with White House officials, told CNN late Tuesday that there’s been no outreach by the White House to do contact tracing or to follow up on his condition.

The email also laid out new guidance with regard to masks, mandatory random testing of employees, quarantining and coming to work with Covid-19 symptoms.

On contract tracing, the email said that “the White House medical unit, with assistance from the CDC, has completed all contact tracing for positive COVID-19 cases that have been identified at the White House. “

The email described new guidance on returning to the White House after quarantining, saying that “if you have tested positive for Covid-19, are quarantining due to a close contact or are self-isolating due to symptoms, you MUST be cleared by the White House Medical Unit prior to returning to the EOP Campus.

Trump to attend Presidential debate, days after being diagnosed with COVID-19

After President Donald Trump returned to the White House just days after starting coronavirus treatment at Walter Reed medical center, he removed his mask for a photo-op

US President Donald Trump now intends to participate in the next presidential debate just a day after he was prematurely discharged from quarrantine facilities.

Trump, who shortly after being released from hospital declared himself a champion against the scourge, says he will participate in the second debate scheduled on October 15 in Miami, Florida.

Trump was discharged from the Walter Reed National Medical Center after doctors treating him found that he was fit enough to go back home.

White House physician Dr Sean Conley told reporters at the Walter Reed National Military Center, Trump has exceeded all standard hospital discharge criteria.

After returning to the White House, Trump in an unusual decision climbed up to the South Portico stairs, instead of the elevators, to go to his residence.

After taking off the mask, the US President stood up in the portico facing South Lawns for a few minutes and saluted Marine One.

In a recorded video message, Trump, while referring to the deadly virus, said, “Don’t let it dominate you. Don’t be afraid of it”. He added, “We’re going back, we’re going back to work. We’re going to be out front. Don’t let it dominate your lives. Get out there, be careful”.

WHO: Africa still shocks the world with minimal COVID-19 impact

The Wold Health Organization has expressed optimism over the severity of the Coronavirus pandemic in Africa, in a report that shows continously declining cases.

However, South Africa and Ethiopia continue to report the highest numbers of new cases in Africa, followed by Mozambique, Uganda, and Nigeria.

Africa has seen a continuous decline in case incidence since mid-July; however, this trend is now slowing

For the first week since early August, the number of new deaths has risen –led by South Africa with a 29% increase in deaths in the past week.

South Africa also has the second-highest death rate in the Region with 11,461 deaths per 1 million population.

The provinces of Gauteng and the Western Cape have reported the most cases and deaths to date; however, these regions, as well as the country itself, have reported shrinking cases.

Despite this, weekly case numbers have continued to rise in less populated provinces. The country moved to Alert Level1 as of 21 September(the least stringent of the five alert levels applied by the South African Government), with all sectors of the economy now open with strict adherence to public health protocols.

A WHO surge team of experts, including infectious disease specialists and epidemiologists, is currently in SouthAfrica and is continuing to work with the National Department of Health.

New weekly cases have risen in Angola from 400 in the week of 7 September to 698 cases in the past week, a 74% increase, although the number of new cases has declined by 10% from the past week.

Angola recently upgraded their self-reported transmission classification from ‘clusters of cases’ to ‘community transmission’. Luanda province remains the epicentrewith around 90% of all cases.

A total of 16 out of the 18 provinces have reported confirmed cases. WHO has trained around 90 community health mobilizers now operating across Luanda.

Vatican causes chaos by invalidating baptism formula

Computers are unforgiving, but Christianity is supposed to be forgiving. Computers insist that humans, especially programmers, be exact. A single wrong letter in a line of code can crash a program. But even ordinary users can experience this. Nothing puts us into panic like a computer telling us: “Invalid Username or Password.”

The religion of Jesus is supposed to be forgiving. He attacked the Scribes and the Pharisees for their emphasis on the minutiae of the law. Yet, even under Pope Francis, who is all about compassion and forgiveness, the literalists appear to be alive and well in the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

For centuries, the baptismal formula in the Roman Catholic Church has been: “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Most Protestant churches have also used this formula.

Toward the end of the 20 century, however, a few baptismal ministers began tinkering with the formula. A few ministers have said “We baptize” to bring out the familial or community dimension of the baptism.

For example, a priest might say, “In the name of the father and of the mother, of the godfather and of the godmother, of the grandparents, of the family members, of the friends, in the name of the community we baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

In June the congregation, which deals with doctrinal issues, ruled that a baptism was invalid if the minister said, “We baptize” instead of “I baptize.…”

This caused absolute chaos in Detroit, where the Rev. Matthew Hood saw in a video of his 1990 baptism that Deacon Mark Springer used the “We” formula. As a result, Hood was not a Christian, let alone a priest, because he could not be validly ordained a priest if he was not validly baptized.

Hood’s situation was quickly remedied on Aug. 9 with his baptism and on Aug. 17 with his ordination. But the archdiocese is trying to track down everyone baptized by Deacon Springer, who served in Detroit from 1986 to 1999. How many other priests and deacons around the country used “We” is unknown.

But since his ordination in 2017 was invalid, people who went to Hood’s “Masses” did not really attend Mass and did not receive consecrated bread at Communion. It also means that his absolutions in confession were not sacramental. His confirmations and anointing of the sick were also invalid. When he performed these sacraments, he was not even a Christian, let alone a priest.

Thankfully, his baptisms were valid because a non-Christian can perform a valid baptism.

This isn’t the first time the formula, which the congregation holds was mandated by Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel, has been tested. Some priests have tried gender-neutral nouns: “I baptize you in the name of the Creator, the Redeemer and the Sanctifier.” Others used “Creator, Liberator and Sustainer.”

Both formulas were declared not only illicit but invalid by the congregation in 2008. In other words, it was not only against the rules, it did not work. The person is not baptized and must be baptized again using the correct formula.

What about marriages?

An argument can be made that Hood’s marriages could be valid because the couple are the ministers of the sacrament, not the priest. The priest is simply a witness for the church and the church has allowed the nonordained (for example, sea captains) to perform this task in emergencies.

But what about people who were invalidly baptized and then were married in the church?

They are probably safe if they married a baptized Christian, because only one of the persons needs to be a Christian for the marriage to be valid. But if either party was not baptized, there would be no sacrament. It takes two Christians to have a sacramental marriage.

In a worst-case scenario, there might even be a bishop who was invalidly baptized. Not only are his Masses, confessions and confirmations invalid, so too are his ordinations. That means the men he ordained are not priests and all of the sacraments they performed are invalid.

The real problem here is that the Vatican is treating the traditional words of baptism like a computer password. Without it, you cannot get into the church.

In fact, some scholars point to the Pauline letters for evidence that early Christians were baptized in the name of Jesus, not the Trinity. The Catholic Encyclopedia, for example, states that “The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ to the words Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by the Catholic Church in the second century.”

If the congregation is correct, then the early Christians are all in Limbo. Woops, I forgot, Pope Benedict got rid of Limbo.

In addition, the Orthodox churches have never used the Roman church’s formula. They use the passive voice: “May this servant of Christ be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit;” or, “This person is baptized by my hands in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Such Orthodox baptisms have been recognized as valid by the Roman Catholic Church since the Council of Florence in 1439.

“To declare that the baptism is illicit when the minister uses the term ‘We’ rather than ‘I’ is appropriate,” said the Rev. Peter Fink, retired professor of sacramental theology from the Weston School of Theology and editor of “The New Dictionary of Sacramental Worship.”

“To declare that the baptism is invalid is a far more serious charge,” he argued, “and seems to go against the long-standing Catholic tradition in favor of baptizing when a baptism is requested, even to the extent that a nonbaptized person may baptize in emergency situations if need be.”

People “expect the baptism to be valid, and any suggestion that the baptism is not simply makes fun of the sacrament itself,” said Fink. “The couple who sought from the church a baptism for their child should leave with the conviction that the baptism has in fact taken place, and nothing should make them think otherwise.”

If you do not know how you were baptized, don’t worry about it. Very few ministers used the wrong formula. If without your knowledge you were incorrectly baptized, God will take care of it.

If you have serious reason to doubt your baptism, it’s easy to fix: Just get rebaptized. Any friend or family member can validly do it (though the Archdiocese of Detroit wants a priest to do it, and you should follow the instructions of your local bishop).

If you are worried about your marriage, talk to your local parish priest and do what he recommends. If necessary, you can be quietly remarried by a priest without a fuss. If you’re a priest who was invalidly baptized, go talk to your bishop. If you are a bishop, God help us all.

If you went to confession to a priest who was invalidly baptized and ordained, do not worry about it. God will take care of it. As the Archdiocese of Detroit told people:

The Church, following St. Thomas Aquinas, maintains that God has bound Himself to the sacraments, but He is not bound by the sacraments (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1257 and St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa theologiae III, q. 64 a. 7 and III q. 68 a. 2). This means that while we can have certainty that God always works through the sacraments when they are properly conferred by the minister, God is not bound by the sacraments in that He can and does extend His grace in a sovereign way. We can be assured that all those who approached Father Hood, in good faith, to make a confession did not walk away without some measure of grace and forgiveness from God.

The Archdiocese of Detroit has made the best of a bad situation, but the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith needs to pull this ruling. It was a mistake and a pastoral catastrophe. It would have been better to declare the formula illicit but valid.

The congregation also needs to change its way of making such decisions. Prior to issuing such an important decision, the congregation needs to announce that it is studying the question and ask for input from theologians and pastors from around the world, not just a small clique of Vatican and Roman university experts. Then, it should issue a proposed rule and ask for comments before issuing a final decision.

When the Vatican makes mistakes, it is often because it wants to project an image of being all-knowing and all-wise and therefore not in need of advice. By not getting input, the congregation made a mistake that hurt its credibility. By not practicing the synodality so ardently encouraged by Pope Francis, the congregation has thrown the church into chaos. The church should not act like a computer; it should act like Christ.

WHO: One in ten people has contracted Coronavirus

The novel coronavirus may have infected about one in 10 people globally, meaning the majority of the world remains vulnerable to Covid-19, a World Health Organization official has said.

The novel coronavirus may have infected about one in 10 people globally, meaning the majority of the world remains vulnerable to Covid-19, a World Health Organization official has said.

“Our current best estimates tell us that about 10% of the global population may have been infected by this virus,” Dr. Mike Ryan, director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme, said at a WHO executive board meeting Monday.

With a global population of about 7. 7 billion people, Ryan’s estimate would mean about 770 million have been infected — but most have not been diagnosed or counted.

The disease continues to spread,” Ryan said.

Only four European countries are now measuring below a crucial level of Covid-19 cases, according the latest figures Monday, with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s (ECDC) warning in its latest risk assessment the risk of Covid-19 is high, with a very high probability of infection, while vulnerable individuals face a “very high impact” from the disease.

The last time the US saw more than 50,000 cases back to back was in mid-August, and the country’s leading infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci has warned that the country is still behind on testing.

By Pass projects excites Wangige, Kabete residents

The Western By-pass is now 40 per cent complete and on schedule.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) Director General Peter Mundinia says the 16.7 Kilometer Road is progressing well. Mundinia said the dual carriageway project once complete will eradicate traffic congestion in the city and its environs.

The project is financed by the Kenya Government and the China Exim Bank. It entails the tarmacking of 2 lanes in each direction, seven meter wide separated by a four meter median and 2 meter shoulder on each side.

The road has a design speed of 80 km per hour. Mundinia says the upgrade will upscale and transform the business operations within the Project Corridor that will potentially translate the livelihoods of Kiambu County residents.

The Bypass mainly follows along the existing road (Gitaru Road) towards the northeast and then turns into southeast near Ndenderu town (Limuru Road). The Western Bypass passes several towns such as Gitaru, Wangige, Ndenderu and Ruaka. The project terminates at the Two Rivers Mall roundabout on the Northern Bypass in Ruaka.

The by-pass is one of the major trunk road links in the Nairobi Road Network Master Plan. It traverses Kabete and Kiambaa constituencies-two rich agricultural lands in Kenya.

Opinion: Kenya, A hotbed of political conmanship

In 2013, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka feigned a political deal.

The pretence was that Raila will support Kalonzo in 2017, regardless of the outcome of 2013. – By Henry Kimoli.

Rather than honour this, Raila rebranded from CORD to NASA, and called the Kalonzo bluff.

In 2013, the dynamic duo Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto pretended to sign a pact. The dint of the pact was that Kakenjin and GEMA will rule Kenya for till 2027.

First things. Ruto balkanises the Kalenjin nation to back Uhuru. Until his turn in 2022.

The foursome were not signing up because they loved each other. Conveniently, they were perpetrating their tribal and personal wishes on the Kenyan people.

History has caught up with them. Ruto has awaken from his political stupor to find out that GEMA had bolted.

He needs to herd them back but whatever means possible, including intimidation, political ceasure and whatever other means.

Murang’a’s storm in a tea cup fall flatly here.

Muranga Business Community warn DP Ruto, bans Kenya Mpya buses from Murangá | Kenyan_Report

In essence, there was no violence in Muranga. It is akin to a bar brawl in downtown Nairobi over a well-packaged twilight girl.

The chaos was stage managed by the two groups to create non-existent deep tensions between Ruto and Uhuru supporters in Central Kenya.

Let’s face it. President Kenyatta has zero supporters among the Kalenjins currently. DP William Ruto has zero supporters in GEMA. They left him on 26th October 2017.

The GEMA are in the market for a presidential candidate. Or, depending on the outcome of the BBI, a Prime Minister.

GEMA will not support Ruto. You can bank this. Not because they have any tangible reason, but because they are a strategic community.

Rift valley (read KAMATUSA), have DP Ruto as their presidential candidate.

What then is next?

Quit now, Uhuru-Raila allies tell Ruto for 'absconding duty'

DP Ruto must wait for the BBI outcome and sign new political players to deal with it.

He can defeat his boss at the referendum, using his hustler movement narrative. If he does, this STILL does not guarantee him State House tenancy.

For Ruto to decisively deal with his boss, he must lure Raila, Kalonzo and Mudavadi to his corner. He has no other feasible way.

Ndindi Nyoro, Alice Wahome, and Rigathi Gachagua are political toddlers with little, if any, support at the grassroots.

The GEMA community will decide who succeeds Uhuru as their kingpin. Uhuru is GEMA incarnate and will influence this decision to a large extent.

Just like Ruto will decide for the Kalenjin nation.

Jubilee thus should not fumigate its Pangani headquarters alone. It should also deal with the political flies in its midst who pretend to have a following.

And while at it, the law has not been suspended.

CS Magoha announces new school dates amid COVID-19 deaths

Uhuru with Secondary school students at State House

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has directed schools to reopen on 12th October 2020.

In a statement detailing how the resumption will be condcted, Prof. Magoha emphasized that only Grade four pupils, Class eight and Form four students will be allowed back in class.

On the part of examinations, candidates will sit their KCPE and KCSE exams between March 21 and 25. The costs of the KCPE and KCSE examinations have been paid for by the government.

In his directive, students will be required to always wear their masks, and that learning institutions would be required to carry out regular temperature checks.

The directive comes barely a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta issued guidelines to be observed before school reopen.

Uhuru was yet to announce a definite date on the resumption of learning.

In his defense, Uhuru said he will only reopen once the Education and Health Ministry guarantees the safety of learners.

Kenya has so far recorded 735 deaths of the deadly virus, with 39,449 cases reported at the time of this publication.

However, no word has been put out on the reopening of other classes in schools.
