Husband to Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
Paul Pelosi, 82, was arrested in Napa County, north of San Francisco, after a two-vehicle incident shortly before midnight, according to the California Highway Patrol.
He was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors, with a $5,000 bond set, but according to police records, he was not in custody on Sunday.
Mr Pelosi was attempting to cross State Route-29 in his 2021 Porsche when he was struck by a 48-year-old man in a Jeep, according to the Highway Patrol.
No one was hurt, and the other driver wasn’t arrested.
State law prohibits drivers from getting behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level above 0.08%.
Mrs Pelosi was in Rhode Island at the time to give a speech to students at Brown University
Her spokesperson said: “The speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast.”
