Police Arrest One Person For Falsely Announcing Museveni’s Death

Police said they have arrested a man in central Uganda’s Luweero District for offensive communication after he reportedly spread false news that President Museveni had died.

Mr Charles Twiine, a CID spokesperson, named the suspect as Jamilu Ssekyondwa and stated, “Incontrovertible evidence got on him and shall be utilised for prosecution.”

Mr Museveni, 76, ordered security officers to “identify and arrest individuals who were circulating false rumors about his death as soon as possible.”

On the night of June 26, the claims that had gotten increasingly vociferous began to circulate, even after the president made many public appearances.

“The other day when I went to that side of Bombo to lay a foundation (for a project), people were looking at me with shock because social media reported that I was dead,” A visibly angered President Museveni spoke.
