Police Clearance Certificate Set For Major Upgrade

Kenya is revamping its Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) system to expedite processing and enhance efficiency.
The new system, known as Multi Biometric Identification System (MBIS), will replace the existing Automated Palm and Fingerprint Identification System (APFIS).

This upgrade aims to address public concerns regarding lengthy processing times for PCCs, which currently take 14 days.

With MBIS, applicants will receive their certificates within a day, significantly reducing waiting times.

The new system will also allow for live scans of fingerprints at 52 Huduma Centres across the country, as well as DCI headquarters and police stations.

This eliminates the need for manual paperwork, streamlining the application process.
MBIS boasts a tenfold increase in data storage capacity compared to APFIS.

The new system can store up to 10 million criminal records, ensuring a more comprehensive background check process.
