A section of police claim some Nairobi residents intimidated and provoked them last night while celebrating the lifting of the Covid-19 pandemic dusk to dawn curfew.
This is after some of the groups drove and walked outside police stations singing and chanting songs praising President Kenyatta for his actions while condemning police for ordering that bars be closed at 7 pm.
Police take this for intimidation and provocation because they are implementing an order issued by authorities.
Bars across the country will remain from 7 pm, despite a lift of the daily dusk-to-dawn curfew earlier Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai said.
Mutyambai said the police service will continue to ensure adherence to the measures.
President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the curfew that has been in place since March 27, 2020.
In his address during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kirinyaga, the Head of State said the decision to vacate the curfew was made following the declining rate of COVID-19 infection in the country.
