The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement in response to criticism from Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi regarding the government’s handling of his son’s abduction case.
CS Muturi publicly expressed frustration with the lack of progress in investigations, alleging that the government is aware of a worrying trend of abductions. Speaking on the matter, Muturi lamented the perceived inefficiency in addressing the issue and called for swift action to resolve his son’s case.
In a statement signed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the police reassured the public that investigations into abduction cases are ongoing and reiterated that many past cases have already been resolved and are pending before court.
DCI’s Response
The DCI clarified that the abduction case involving Muturi’s son is under active investigation at the Kilimani branch. However, they noted that only the son has recorded a statement so far. The DCI urged Muturi and anyone with additional information to cooperate with investigators by recording statements to aid in resolving the case.
“The alleged case of abduction involving CS Justin Muturi’s son is active before DCI Kilimani. Considering that only the son volunteered to record a statement, we wish to invite CS Muturi and any other person with information on the incident to record a statement with DCI Kilimani,” the statement read.
The police further revealed that several inquiry files into reported abductions are at various stages of investigation and will soon be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Appeal for Public Assistance
The DCI appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could assist in investigations. They assured that all information shared would be treated in confidence.
“The DCI reaffirms its steadfast commitment to ensuring that all abduction cases are thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book,” the statement concluded.
A Worrying Trend
Muturi’s concerns come amid rising anxiety over abduction cases in the country, with human rights organizations and political leaders urging the government to act decisively to curb the trend.
Public outcry continues to grow as families demand accountability and justice for their loved ones, with critics arguing that the government must demonstrate greater urgency in addressing these incidents.
Meanwhile, all eyes are on the DCI as the public awaits further developments in CS Muturi’s son’s case and other high-profile abduction investigations.
