Police detain parents over death of 15-year old daughter in Ahero, Kisumu County

Police in Nyando subcounty, Kisumu county have detained a couple in connection with the brutal killing of their 15-year-old daughter.

The motive of the incident was not immediately known. Police said the couple were persons of interest in the case.

The incident was reported on April 29 by the director of a funeral home, who alerted authorities after a female body with severe injuries was taken to the facility under suspicious circumstances.

Police officers from Ahero police station rushed to the mortuary and found the body of the Form 2 student.

The body bore multiple injuries, including deep head wounds suspected to have been inflicted using a blunt object, bruises on both hands, stab wounds on both legs, a swollen left foot and fractures on both kneecaps.

Investigators also noted the presence of mud on her stomach, suggesting possible assault at an outdoor location.

Preliminary investigations established that the deceased had been taken to the mortuary by her parents, Nyanza regional police boss Gisiri Nyamohanga said.

Acting on a tip-off, police officers swiftly tracked down and arrested the two suspects at their home in Kakola.They are currently being held at Ahero police station and are expected to be arraigned pending investigations.

The body of the deceased has been preserved at Othoo Funeral Home mortuary pending a postmortem examination.The incident has sent shockwaves across the local community, with investigators working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
