Locals in Baringo County have reported a strange helicopter feeding ammo to criminals in the region, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation.

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mohammed Maalim told people that the incident was being investigated and urged them to be calm as investigators worked to solve the problem.

Maalim stated in Kajiado on Thursday, while on a familiarization tour of the area, that the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) maintains a manifest of all aircraft departing any airport at any given time, and that the specifics of the helicopter will be investigated to verify the claims.

Residents stated that a white helicopter was sighted hovering over regions most afflicted by banditry assaults during a peace meeting conducted on March 9 in Mochongoi, Baringo South.

The aircraft is claimed to have landed near the Korkon Hills, where armed bandits are known to graze their sheep, sparking concerns that influential persons were supplying weapons to the outlaws.

Locals urged that the government make the registration data of the helicopter, its owners, and its role in the region public, claiming that each time it is sighted, assaults occur within a day or two.

The aircraft was first sighted in January, just a few weeks after illegal herders from adjacent Laikipia County arrived.
