Police Impostor Arraigned Over Recruitment Scam

A man presumed to be a Police officer was arraigned in court on May 30,2022 and charged with obtaining money by false pretence contrary to the Law.

Victor Njeru Joseph is accused of obtaining Ksh 70,000 from Joseph Kimomo pretending that he would facilitate employment and cater for training requirements for his son in the National police service.

According to the charges, the accused person approached Mr.Kimomo on March 3,2021 with a sweet narrative of being a senior police officer and that he would facilitate recruitment of his son to the police force should he (Mr.Kimomo) part with some cash to accelerate the process.

It is further submitted that the complainant wired the said cash to the ‘senior police officer’ who later on disappeared into thin air.
Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Micheni Wendy, the accused person denied particulars of the charges and prayed to be allowed to reach the complainant and settle the matter out of court.
However, the court released him on a bond of Ksh 200,000 with alternative cash bail of Ksh 70,000.

Cases of criminals posing as police officers and illegally obtaining millions of money from unsuspecting citizens in the name of being able to aid their recruitment in the disciplined forces has been on the rise despite threats from the authorities, threats which are never effected.
