Operations targeting illicit alcohol and illegal substances are gathering pace across the country, as the National Police Service steps up enforcement efforts to curb the production, distribution and consumption of harmful brews.
Recent crackdowns conducted in Kisumu, Machakos and Kirinyaga counties highlight a sustained, multi-agency approach aimed at protecting public health and maintaining law and order.
During the operations, police officers confiscated large quantities of illicit alcohol, including commonly abused brews such as chang’aa and makabo, which are often produced in unregulated and unsafe conditions.
Authorities say the substances pose significant health risks to consumers, with past incidents linked to poisoning and long-term health complications.

Several suspects were arrested during the raids and are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to the manufacture and distribution of illegal alcohol.
The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to intensifying surveillance and conducting targeted operations, while also working closely with local communities to identify and dismantle illegal brewing dens.
The crackdown comes amid renewed efforts by authorities to address the widespread impact of illicit alcohol on communities, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas.
