A Police Officer who allegedly shot dead a driver along the Pussani-Esoit Road in Trans Mara Narok County has been arrested after surrendering himself to law enforcement officers.
According to media reports, APC Wilson Kortom shot the driver who was transporting charcoal after being denied a bribe of Ksh3,000.
The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday, December 29, 2019.
Transmara West Sub-county Police Commander Dahir Abdulahi has confirmed that the accused surrendered himself at Esoit Patrol Base and was later taken to Kilgoris Base.
Reports further indicate that Kortom stopped the probox vehicle which had two occupants at a roadblock where he demanded the bribe.
The driver however denied and went ahead to remove the stones on the roadblock manned by the officer. This angered Kortom who allegedly shot the driver on the chest before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle.
The driver who has been confirmed to be a 21-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at the St Joseph’s Mission Hospital.
