Police Raid Scrap Yard With KPLC Property Worth Ksh. 70M

Energy Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma has asked the public to report vandalism to Kenya Power infrastructure following the recovery of fifteen transformers and equipment worth over Sh70 million in Ruiru. 

Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma indicated to the press on Sunday that this will greatly contribute to the protection of this facilities. 

“It is intolerable, and I want to congratulate the security personnel; they have increased monitoring, and Kenyans are assisting in supplying information, and I want to urge every Kenyan to provide us with information because these actions are being perpetrated in our midst,” she said. 

According to the Cabinet Secretary, Kenyans have benefited so far from the many changes proposed in the Energy sector, including the restriction on scrap metal trade.

“Initial estimate of losses amounts to more than Ksh 75 million, a clear demonstration of the sabotage on the economy and to the aspiration of Government to connect more Kenyans to power.”

The crackdown was as a result of investigations, which found critical infrastructure vandalized leading to a nationwide blackout.
