Detectives conducted a raid on a previously closed yard, which had been illicitly reopened for drug trafficking purposes, seizing 100 kilograms of bhang in Ngara, Nairobi.
The action was prompted by complaints from local residents regarding the resurgence of drug activity allegedly linked to an individual known as Mathe Wa Ngara at the Kariuwa den.
Nancy Kigunzu, also known as Mathee wa Ngara, purportedly the owner of the yard, is currently in police custody on charges related to drug trafficking. This follows her arrest last year when authorities raided the same location and apprehended her workers, with Kigunzu herself being detained while attempting to consult with a lawyer in the city.
On Monday, March 18, responding to reports of renewed drug trafficking activities, law enforcement officers raided the yard, uncovering 100 kilograms of bhang and arresting four suspects onsite. Additionally, police seized various tools and equipment used in the preparation and distribution of narcotics.
Nairobi Police Chief Adamson Bungei affirmed that efforts to combat drug trafficking are ongoing.
Previously, Kigunzu and her co-accused were charged with trafficking cannabis valued at Sh18.3 million on August 15, 2023, along Lipa Dr road in Nairobi. They also faced charges related to the possession of proceeds of crime. Despite their denials, the prosecution opposed their release on bail, citing the need to isolate them from society to prevent further harm.
