Police officers on patrol at Billow Dam, Biamthow SOG Officers have recovered a cache of weapons while tracing foot prints on May 22, 2023.
According to The National Police Service (NPS)the officers followed the footprints for about 2.7 kilometres.
The officers were led to a makeshift camp with about 10 suspected Alshabaab militants. After a fierce shootout, the militants fled leaving behind weapons.
Two Rocket Propelled Grenades with 7 warheads, 6 AK47 rifles with 20 magazines, 1 PKM machine gun with a belt of 200 rounds, 2 hand grenades, supplies for IEDs, a food cache, a cell phone, and a memory card were recovered at the camp.
Multi agency units drawn from the country’s elite police forces have been hunting Alshabaab figyters who have been hiding near the border.
A manhunt has been launched for the militants.
