Police Recover Stolen Uniforms in Murang’a After Tip-Off

Officers in Kigumo Sub-County, Murang’a County, have recovered a consignment of stolen police uniforms following a swift operation in Kangari town on Thursday evening.

Acting on intelligence received earlier in the day, a team from Kangari Police Station intercepted a middle-aged man who was carrying a bundle containing official National Police Service attire.

The recovered items comprised a pair of jungle combat trousers, a long-sleeved shirt bearing the rank chevrons of a corporal, and a regulation blue police jersey.

Preliminary inquiries established that the uniforms had been stolen from a government store at Nyamira North Police Station in Nyamira County several weeks earlier. Investigators are now tracing how the clothing travelled more than 300 kilometres across three counties before surfacing in Kangari.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was arrested at the scene and is being held at Kangari Police Station as the probe continues. Police say they are examining whether the uniforms are being traded on the black market or intended for criminal impersonation.

Senior officers welcomed the recovery, noting that the unauthorised possession of police kit poses a direct threat to public safety. “Anyone wearing official uniform without authority can easily commit serious offences while undermining trust in the service,” a Murang’a County police commander said.
