MPs Trade Blows As ‘Azimio Bill’ Triggers Emotions

On Wednesday afternoon, Parliament was thrown into disarray when MPs got into a fist brawl during a debate on the contentious Political Parties (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

The parliamentarians were debating Kandara MP Alice Wahome’s proposal to Article Six.

Clause Six, which is at the heart of the bill, aims to establish procedures for registering a coalition political party, among other things.

The bill is considered as part of an effort to turn Raila Odinga’s 2022 machine, led by Azimio La Umoja, into a coalition party.

The legislators resorted to physical conflict in order to obstruct the vote process.

Others were spotted tossing water bottles in protest of the current situation.
