Poll: Embattled Kawira Mwangaza Among Best Performing Governors Amid Impeachment

Embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza is among the best-performing county bosses in the country, according to a survey by Infotrak Research and Consulting.

While Meru MCAs found Ms Mwangaza unfit to lead, the data shows that residents appreciate her leadership as she also received a positive rating.

According to the poll, Governor Mwangaza was ranked position eight with a 63% score and is the second-best female governor after Homa Bay’s Gladys Wanga.

Moreover, Mwangaza tied with Wisley Rotich of Elgeyo Marakwet and Julius Malombe of Kitui.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and his Homa Bay counterpart Gladys Wanga were ranked as the best-performing county leaders on the list.

Further, in the Eastern region, Governor Mwangaza was ranked second after her Makueni counterpart Mutula Kilonzo who scored 64%.

Additionally, Meru County featured in the list of five most improved governors having improved from position 38 in the 2020 poll to the current position 8.

On the other hand, Meru scored 49% and was ranked 25th in the county satisfaction index.

In addition, she was ranked 13th in the water management index and 25th in terms of education.

The survey, called “The CountyTrak Performance Index”, was conducted between July and September.

The fate of the besieged Meru governor now rests with the Senate plenary after Kenya Kwanza senators rejected the select committee route.

Yesterday, lawmakers aligned with President William Ruto defeated a motion to form an 11-member select committee to hear and decide impeachment charges against the first-term governor.

This came after the debate took a political turn, with Kenya Kwanza senators supporting the plenary and Azimio supporting the formation of the select committee.
