A 26-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son are fighting for their lives at Kericho County Referral Hospital after the woman’s husband allegedly set fire to their home in a family feud.
According to doctors at the facility, the mother of two from Kimologit village in Londiani suffered 45 percent burns, while her son suffered 18 percent burns.
The victim’s brother stated that his sister was having family problems with her husband over where their son, a KCPE candidate, would be circumcised after the exams.
The suspect allegedly poured petrol into the house while the victims were sleeping and set it on fire.
The family is requesting assistance from the Kericho County government after the woman was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.
Following the incident, the suspect suffered serious burns and was taken to Londiani Sub County Hospital. He was supposed to be transferred to Kericho County Referral Hospital.
The KCPE candidate was not present at the time of the incident as he had chosen to sleep in another structure.
Londiani Sub-County Police Commander Agnes Munga confirmed the incident and stated that 12 rented houses were destroyed in the fire that occurred at 1 a.m. on Sunday.
