“The youths in this country have failed to meet their goals in life because of poor government policies that have left them out of key decisions pertaining to the development of this country.”
Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) chairperson in Kilifi County Witness Tsuma said there is no proper legislation that has clearly defined the relevance of the youths in terms of economic development and job opportunities especially in the public sector.
For that reason, Ms Tsuma said the youths only depend on government directives and some parastatals that offer few job opportunities to help the youths.
She was speaking at Mazingira Park in Kilifi town after meeting a group of youths who cut a cake to celebrate her birthday.
“The calls have been that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow which actually never come. This has caused a lot of suffering, depression and low self-esteem among the youths. We need to come up with proper policies that will take our country forward,” she said.

Ms Tsuma who is also an aspirant for the Kilifi County woman Representative seat in the next year General Election said it was very unfortunate that more than fifty years after independence, the youths have made a slow development in Kenya compared to other countries.
“If we are to detach the problems of the youths and themselves, then the national assembly needs to come up with proper legislation that will govern the implementation of policies to address the youths, give them an opportunity to develop themselves,” she said.
She said that her focus especially in Kilifi is to see young men and women getting the chance to prosper through different initiatives she has outlined in her program.
“It’s been a long wait but if we come together and work in unison, then we shall win. Youths belong to the winning side and not mere spectators,” she said.
