Preacher Arrested Over Ritual Killing

In connection with the murder of a four-year-old girl, the Kampala Metropolitan Police have transported a Nansana-based preacher to Jinja Police Station.

Mr. Israel Isama Buyinza of Deliverance and Healing Ministries has joined Prophet Joseph Sserubiri and his lover, Felista Namaganda, who confessed to taking part in the ceremonial death of Trinity Nakisuyi Nabirye Zabeela on December 4th.

September 30 was the last day the four-year-old child was last seen alive.

Sserubiri and Namaganda, who belong to a church in Market Village, Kakira Town Council, led detectives to Wanyange Village after being interrogated.

The head of the deceased was recovered from a sugarcane plantation near Lake Victoria’s shoreline. A polythene sugar bag was discovered wrapped around the torso.

"Buyinza and the two prime suspects (Mr Sserubiri and Ms Namaganda) are being held at gazetted facilities of custody inside Kiira region," stated Kiira Region Police Spokesperson Mr James Mubi.

Sserubiri told authorities that the ceremonial killing was carried out on Mr Buyinza’s advice, according to police spokesperson Fred Enanga.

According to reports, the latter stated that the killing was required if Mr Sserubiri and Ms Namaganda wanted to grow their church’s membership.

"Sserubiri came to build up a branch of Deliverance and Healing Ministries in Kakira," Mr Mubi said. He went on to say that they discovered Mr Sserubiri was a prophet at Buyinza's Nansana-based congregation. He is said to have been excommunicated from the church two years ago for stealing and defrauding people.

After bloodstains were discovered in a room that the victim’s father rented out to him, Mr Sserubiri confessed to the crime. His church was also in the room.

Two blood-stained knives were also discovered, which were reportedly used by the accused to slit their victim’s throat.

Mr Sserubiri told detectives he slit the deceased’s throat once while Ms Namaganda held a jar to collect her blood, according to Mr Sabwe. The majority of the blood was poured in the pit-latrine of the family.
