President William Ruto on Sunday pledged Sh10 million to Gor Mahia Football Club and announced a cash reward of Sh100,000 for each player after receiving the Kenyan Premier League trophy at State House, Nairobi.

The President made the announcement during a ceremony held in honour of the league champions, praising the team’s discipline and success throughout the season.

Ruto also pledged continued government support for sports development, saying the Ministry of Sports would work on mechanisms to nurture and support talent across the country.

“First, we shall eat together. I can see you are a disciplined team. Some people come here and they quote the amount of money they want. I will organise to see that each one of you leaves here with Sh100,000 first. For the team, the chairman will give me your account and organise Sh10 million, and in the future you look for me,” Ruto said.

“The Sports CS will ensure the government organises how to support your talent.”

The cash boost comes as Gor Mahia celebrates another successful league campaign.

Led by club officials, technical staff and players, the delegation presented the coveted trophy to the President in recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to the growth of Kenyan football.

The ceremony highlighted the important role sports play in national development and celebrated Gor Mahia’s latest success in Kenyan football.

Gor Mahia remains one of the country’s most decorated clubs, with a rich history of league titles and continental achievements dating back several decades.

Gor Mahia’s extended 22nd FKF Premier League title is another affirmation of their long-standing dominance in Kenyan football.

Ruto congratulated Gor Mahia Football Club after the team secured the 2025/2026 SportPesa Premier League title, marking a historic 22nd league championship for the Kenyan football giants.

The President hailed the club’s consistency and dominance in local football, describing the achievement as a reflection of discipline, resilience and hard work throughout the season.

He commended the players, technical bench, management and supporters for their role in the success, noting that their commitment had once again propelled the club to the summit of Kenyan football.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed congratulated Gor Mahia FC, praising them for their consistency and excellence throughout the season.

The FKF President said that the champions will take home Sh15 million from the Sh20 million prize pool.

He described the reward as a fitting recognition for a season marked by discipline, competitiveness and strong performances.

Hussein also extended appreciation to all clubs that participated in the league, commending them for raising the level of competition.
