President William Ruto announced the resumption of the Mombasa-Kilifi Highway construction during his visit to Mombasa County on Monday.

The project had stalled due to financial disputes between the contractor and the government.

“I came to launch this road that begins at Nyali Bridge to Kilifi through Mtwapa. We have pumped in enough money, and the contractor is already back on site,” Ruto stated.

“I know it has taken time, and that is because we want to make it a dual carriageway to decongest traffic in the region.”

In addition to the highway, Ruto disclosed a Ksh 5 billion investment through the Ministry of Energy to connect 100,000 residents to the national electricity grid.

“Electricity should not be a privilege of the rich but for every Kenyan,” he emphasized.

In Taita Taveta County, Ruto promised to launch an iron ore factory, costing Ksh 10 billion, which would provide 2,000 permanent jobs.

Recognizing fishing as a key economic activity, he announced plans to train coxswains free of charge and the purchase of 25 new boats for deep-sea fishing.

Ruto’s tour followed his nomination of former Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho as Cabinet Secretary for Mining.

At a recent Town Hall in Mombasa, Ruto denied any political pact with the ODM, stressing his government represents all Kenyans, describing it as a government of national unity.
