President Samia Suluhu Urges Tanzanian Officials to Guard Nation Against ‘Outsider’ Influence

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has reiterated her call for vigilance among government officials, urging them to safeguard Tanzania’s sovereignty from what she described as external forces seeking to destabilize the nation.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed government officials at State House in Dar es Salaam, President Suluhu stressed that the responsibility of protecting the nation extends beyond security agencies to all public servants.

Her remarks come amid recent criticism following the arrest and deportation of foreign activists, including individuals from Kenya and Uganda, who were accused of engaging in activities that authorities deemed disruptive.

“Tulioko hapa ni sisi na hakuna mwingine,” President Suluhu said. “Because of the strength and resilience of our nation, there are people from elsewhere who want to come and disrupt what we have built. The duty to protect the nation is not mine alone, nor does it rest solely with the security forces, it is the responsibility of all of us.”

She warned that those aiming to interfere with Tanzania’s internal affairs may try to exploit weaknesses within government institutions, ministries, or state agencies. “If they fail through one avenue, they will try another. That’s why I ask you, protect your nation,” she emphasized.

President Suluhu’s remarks underscore growing concerns within her administration about foreign involvement in domestic issues, particularly following high-profile regional activism. While her government faces scrutiny from human rights groups, the president has stood firm in her stance, maintaining that national security and sovereignty must remain a top priority.

The President concluded by urging officials to remain loyal, vigilant, and committed to Tanzania’s development and peace, reminding them that their positions carry a national obligation beyond politics.
