Five More Arrested Over Vandalism of EACC Vehicles at Natembeya’s Residence

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the vandalism of five vehicles belonging to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which occurred on May 19, 2025, during a lawful search at the residence of Trans Nzoia Governor Hon. George Natembeya.

The suspects were arrested on Saturday following a targeted police operation within Kitale town.

The crackdown, launched shortly after the incident, aimed to identify and apprehend those responsible for obstructing the EACC officers during their official duties.

According to a statement from law enforcement authorities, the arrested individuals are expected to face charges of malicious damage to property, among other related offences.

They are currently in police custody and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.

The EACC had been executing a court-sanctioned search warrant at Hon. Natembeya’s residence as part of an ongoing investigation.

During the operation, a group of unidentified individuals allegedly confronted the officers, vandalizing five official EACC vehicles in what authorities have termed a deliberate attempt to frustrate a lawful anti-corruption probe.

“This act of defiance against the rule of law will not be tolerated,” said a senior police official involved in the investigation. “We are committed to ensuring that all those responsible are held accountable.”

Security agencies have confirmed that the operation remains active, with further arrests anticipated as efforts to trace additional suspects intensify.

The EACC, in collaboration with the police, reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation, urging the public to support the process and uphold the integrity of national institutions.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been so far been released on a Ksh1 million bond or a cash bail of Ksh500,000 after being charged with corruption-related offences.

The governor is facing two counts of conflict of interest and one count of unlawful acquisition of public property.

As part of his bail terms, he has been barred from accessing his office for the next 60 days as investigations continue.
