President Uhuru fires all Kenya Ferry Service board officials after Likoni tragedy

The Kenya Ferry Services board members have been fired.

Following the ferry incident that led to the avoidable deaths of mother Mariam Kighenda and her 4-year old daughter Amanda Mutheu, President Uhuru Kenyatta has revoked the appointment of 5 board members

The members were Dan Mwazo who was the Chairman of the Kenya Ferry Services board, Daula Omar, Naima Amir, Philip Ndolo, Rosina Nasigha Mruttu who were members of the board.

“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander in-Chief of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya, revokes the appointments of Dan Mwazo, Daula Omar, Naima Amir, Philip Ndolo, Rosina Nasigha Mruttu, as Non-Executive Chairperson and members of the Kenya Ferry Services Limited, with effect from the 16th October, 2019,” reads the notice.

The bodies of Miriam and her daughter were recovered 13 days after their car slid off a ferry into the Indian Ocean.

Earlier, John Wambua pointed an accusing finger at the Kenya Ferry Services over the death of his wife and daughter.

In the post morterm result that was released on Thursday, it was revealed that the two perished out of suffocation. The family, through their family lawyer, indicated that they accepted the result and burial preparations were underway.
